The WWE 2K series, like other sports-based franchises, releases a new installment every year. The nature of yearly installments leaves very little room for improvement and innovation, a trend that the WWE 2K devs are aiming to defy with WWE 2K25. The developers are adding new and highly requested features to the latest entry in the series, and we cannot wait to get our hands on the game to try them out.

These new features include chain wrestling, promos, new match types, and much more. The new match types, in particular, are very exciting additions that will freshen up the gameplay. There are three new match types being introduced in WWE 2K25, all reflective of the content seen across the WWE shows in the past year. These three match types are: Bloodline Rules, Intergender Matches, and Underground Matches. We shall discuss these new match types in detail below.

Bloodline Rules

The first, and perhaps the most exciting of the match types coming in WWE 2K25, is the Bloodline Rules match type. We saw two Bloodline Rules matches in the span of the last year, with the most prominent being Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns in the main event of Wrestlemania 40. The match was highly chaotic and featured several run-ins from superstars involved in the Bloodline Saga.

Now, 2K is looking to bring this chaos into WWE 2K25. This match type, like its TV counterpart, places a great emphasis on the run-ins. You play 1v1, and each side gets to invoke three run-ins. You invoke these run-ins by using your Finisher meter, thereby making each run-in important and placing an emphasis on strategy. Since the matches follow a No DQ framework, your 1v1 matches will inevitably devolve into 4v4 brawls, much like we saw in the main event of Wrestlemania 40.

Intergender Matches

The past year saw the rise and fall of the Judgement Day, with Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio being the centerpieces of the story arc. With Dom betraying Rhea, comeuppance is due and has been a long time coming. With WWE 2K25, you finally get to hand Dirty Dom Mysterio the beating he deserves with the new Intergender matches. The match type lets you pit men against women, letting you play out dream matches between your favorite men and women superstars.

Underground Matches

The last match type coming in WWE 2K25 is the Underground match type. The Underground matches saw WWE ditch the ropes and focus more on MMA-based battles. While the matches saw mixed reception on TV, we are beyond intrigued to see how the MMA style translates to a video game format. The ropes play a crucial role in maintaining momentum in the regular matches, so we are interested to see how 2K handles in-ring momentum for Underground.
