⁠Best Heroes That Can Counter Ultimates in Marvel Rivals

Here’s a list of the best heroes that can counter the Ultimate Abilities of other characters on the Marvel Rivals roster.

Ultimate Abilities in Marvel Rivals are difficult to counter. This is one of the reasons why they have that name in the first place. But it’s not an impossible task, of course. If you know what heroes to pick, you can easily counter an enemy Ultimate.

The list may not include the names of all the heroes who are good at countering Ultimates. However, we have tried to mention the ones that we think are overall the most useful in this regard. This “usefulness” is measured in terms of how easily accessible this Ultimate-blocking power is and how effective it is.

1. Invisible Woman

Susan Storm joined Marvel Rivals in Season 1, during its first phase. She is a Strategist and a really good one at that. She has a few skills that can counter other ultimates in Marvel Rivals. First of all, her Force Physics Tunnel ability either pushes or pulls enemies in. This can work wonders on an enemy who is trying to use their Ultimate. Imagine standing close to a ledge where Peni Parker or Hulk are using their Ultimates? Well, you can just push them off the map!

Another way she can counter Ultimates, and by this, I mean almost all the Ultimates, is by using her own Ultimate Ability called Invisible Boundary. Any attacks dealt when you are inside this boundary will not let you die as long as you are in there. This works wonders in tense situations.

2. Magneto

I think Magneto is one of the best Vanguard characters because of how fundamental his skills are to the role of a tank that he plays. He can grant shields to himself and to an ally at a time (even from a distance). This is what makes him so good at blocking certain Ultimate Abilities.

For example, if Venom or Iron Man are targeting a certain teammate of yours, grant them a protection bubble from a distance to save them from their respective Ultimates! It is a cool ability. While it may not last for a long time, you can also use your shield to let your allies stand behind you and shoot away at the enemies ahead.

3. Peni Parker

Peni Parker can be a bullet sponge in most matches if you play her right. Her giant spider mech suit is no joke in a combat situation. If you have laid down her Bionic Spider Nest, it can keep regenerating your health and save you from certain Ultimates like Magik’s and Captain America’s. However, the best part is yet to come.

If you use your Web Snare ability on an enemy who is preparing for an Ultimate Ability, you can stop them in their tracks! This works on many Ultimates, including Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, enemy Peni Parker, Thor, and even Psylocke (if you don’t let her begin her Ultimate animation).

4. Groot

Despite being a walking tree, Groot can create walls of steel—or so it seems. Although his walls are made of the same material as he is, they can be very strong. Surprisingly, they can stop certain Ultimates when placed at the right time in front of your team and yourself.

Not only can his walls stop Ultimates like Hawkeye’s, Black Widow’s, and Magneto’s, but Groot can also build a single wall at the right time to save his surrounding teammates from getting engulfed by It’s Jeff!

5. Captain America

As one would expect, Captain America is always on the frontlines with his shield. However, it’s not just for offense or to show off. His shield is pretty good at blocking Ultimates. Yes, that’s right! When it comes to all in-game shields of characters, his may be the most effective for blocking damage.

The best quality of this Vibranium equipment is that it deflects attacks. And no, this doesn’t refer to Hawkeye’s melee deflect. Instead, it can deflect an attack back at the attacker! So, the next time you select Captain America and see Iron Man sending his Maximum Pulse, just be a good soldier and send him his regards back.
