Astro Bot is one of the best platformer games and was actually crowned Game of the Year 2024. However, platforming is not the only great part about its gameplay. This game pays homage to multiple PlayStation titles, including God of War and Uncharted.

There are special levels designed around these franchises that are a blast to play. The gameplay in these levels is also very similar to the franchise Astro Bot is referencing, which just makes the overall experience so much better. Here is our ranking of the complete list of cameo levels in Astro Bot.

5) Apes On The Loose

Ape Escape has now become an almost forgotten franchise. However, Astro Bot completely revives that feeling of playing an Ape Escape game for the first time. The exact gameplay mechanics of that franchise have been used in the Apes On The Loose level of Astro Bot. You can even tell that the gameplay has been improved in the sense that this level almost feels like a sequel or a remake of the original Ape Escape games.

This level almost feels like you are reliving the joy of catching monkeys. And the way your character turns into the cameo is just the cherry on top. For all those Ape Escape lovers still waiting for the franchise to get revived, you should definitely play through the Apes On The Loose level in Astro Bot.

4) Going Loco

This level is another great adaptation of yet another lost and beloved franchise. LocoRoco was always a fun to play game but it has not received a sequel in so long. At last, Astro Bot tries to pay homage to this great franchise in the Going Loco level. The developers have built such a great reference here. The music in this level is so nostalgic for all the LocoRoco fans.

It doesn’t end there, as the gameplay is simply amazing. Just like the Ape Escape level, the gameplay in Going Loco feels like a spiritual successor to the franchise. It is almost like an evolution with more fluid controls. The way this level utilizes the motion controls of the DualSense controller is also very creative. Astro turns into a giant blob, and you move the Dualsense around to control the direction your character is moving in.

3) Machine Learning

The rest of the cameo levels in this list, including the Machine Learning level, reference the not-so-dead PlayStation franchises. This level is based on the Horizon games, and your character takes the appearance of Aloy. You also get to control the bow and shoot various machines throughout the level.

It almost feels like you’re playing through another Horizon game, but this time in Astro Bot. The Machine Learning level also ends with an amazing boss fight against the T. rex. And the boss fight looks so cinematic throughout your entire encounter.

2) Bot Of War

Ah yes, Kratos, the most beloved PlayStation character. Astro Bot’s cameo levels would not be complete without featuring the great God of War franchise. Even though the boss fight in this level isn’t that great, the level still holds up. Moreover, the gameplay with Kratos’ Leviathan Axe has been beautifully translated by the developers here.

You can throw the axe to freeze and kill enemies. The axe can also be used for platforming, and you can even call it back just like the God of War games. It is actually astonishing to see how truthful these cameo levels are to the source material.

1) Dude Raiding

Uncharted Cameo

The Dude Raiding level in its entirety is a masterpiece and possibly one of the best levels in Astro Bot. It features the cameos of the legendary Uncharted franchise, and your character turns into Nathan Drake. You take control of Nathan’s gun, and this whole level turns into another amazing adventure for treasure, just like the Uncharted games.

The song used in this level is a beautiful remix of Nathan’s theme. Overall, this level pays respect to the characters and the themes of the Uncharted franchise. If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll have a blast playing through this level. And after Uncharted 4, which concluded Drake’s storyline, the Dude Raiding level almost feels like a gift to play.
