In this list, we will highlight the five best modern survival horror video games.

Currently, the survival horror genre is one of the most successful genres in the video game industry. There have been new releases, some amazing remakes, and really great indie game additions to this genre in recent years. Some survival-horror games have also received a lot of nominations at The Game Awards. This is a testament to the fact that the quality of these games has improved drastically compared to the last decade.
We have created a list of some amazing modern survival-horror games that you should absolutely try out.
1) Silent Hill 2 Remake

Silent Hill 2 Remake is a fantastic re-imagination of an already timeless original. This remake not only improves upon the survival-horror aspects but also completely revamps the gameplay systems. The visual overhaul is just the cherry on top, and it helps create even more terrifying environments. Oh, and the sound design is so good that sometimes the audio alone is enough to scare you.
Silent Hill feels more menacing to explore with jump scares hidden around every corner. The new dodge mechanic adds that layer of satisfaction to the gameplay. It is also really useful to save your bullets, since you’ll be needing them for the bosses. A good survival-horror game demands resource management from the player, and Silent Hill 2 Remake checks that box.
2) Dead Space Remake

This is another amazing remake that elevates the greatness of the original. Small gameplay improvements in Dead Space Remake really show themselves if you’ve played the original game. Again, the visual overhaul really adds an extra layer of creepiness to this sci-fi survival-horror adventure.
The storyline in Dead Space Remake has also seen improvements and is now more bone-chilling. Enemy encounters are really frightening, with the audio sometimes turning the horror up a notch. Overall, this game and Silent Hill 2 Remake are the kings of modern survival-horror titles.
3) Signalis

Signalis is an indie survival-horror title with such a unique visual art style that it almost makes you feel nostalgic. The inventory management in this game is really challenging. Even the resources that you get here are bare minimum, and you really need to choose your encounters. Overall, the setting and art style of Signalis make it a unique and amazing survival-horror experience. The puzzles are also really going to make you think.
4) Alan Wake 2

Remedy Entertainment did a complete 180 and shifted genres while developing Alan Wake 2. This game is the studio’s first-ever survival horror, and it delivers on that. Alan Wake 1 was an overall less frightening experience with almost no resource management. However, in Alan Wake 2, every single bullet and flashlight charge can make the difference.
The overall tone of the game has also made a shift to appeal to horror fans. This game contains the most jump scares out of any other survival horror on this list. It relies more on these jump scares to frighten the player and less on environmental horror. Lastly, this survival horror comes with one of the best narrative experiences by the great Sam Lake.
5) Amnesia: The Bunker

Amnesia: The Bunker is the latest release in the beloved Amnesia franchise, and these games are known for their horror. Thankfully, Amnesia: The Bunker retains that aspect and provides one of the most blood-curdling experiences ever. This game really builds on the fear of the unknown by letting a monster chase you throughout its entirety.
Having that feeling at the back of your head that you’re being watched is truly something amazing in horror games. There is nothing scarier, and the developers definitely know that fact. Managing your resources and finding a way out while getting chased by this unknown entity creates a truly beautiful survival-horror experience.
