In this guide, we shall go over how to upgrade your axe in Runescape Dragonwilds so you can chop down all trees.

Resource hunting is a big part of the Runescape Dragonwilds experience, and you spend a good chunk of your early hours exploring the wilds and collecting resources. You’ll be hunting animals, collecting stone, chopping trees, and much more.
Wood is one of the most important resources in the early game, and you’ll be fine chopping down Ash trees, that is, until you run into an Oak Tree. Suddenly, your Stone Axe will not be good enough for the Oak tree. You will swing away, aiming to chop it down, but the stone just won’t penetrate the trunk. The only way to cut through this tree would be to upgrade the axe, but the game doesn’t tell you how.
Upgrading your axe in Runescape Dragonwilds is a complicated process, but it is one you can’t afford to skip. A good chunk of valuable resources are locked behind the higher-tier trees, and the only way to obtain them is by upgrading to the Bronze or Iron Logging Axes. The Stone axe is only serviceable for the early hours of the game.
If you’re someone looking to get higher-tier resources in Runescape Dragonwilds, you need to upgrade your axe. If you don’t know how to, you’ve come to the right place. In this guide, we shall go over how to upgrade your axe in Runescape Dragonwilds.

You begin your Runescape Dragonwilds journey with a Stone Axe. After the Stone Axe, you’d expect the game to progress you to a Bone Axe, but there is no Bone Logging Axe in the game. Instead, you have to jump directly to the Bronze Logging Axe.
To upgrade to the Bronze Axe, you will first need a Furnace and a Kiln. Follow the steps below:
- Place wood in your Kiln to obtain Charcoal.
- Use the Charcoal as fuel for the Furnace, and smelt some Copper and Tin to obtain a Bronze Bar.
- Crafting a Bronze Bar will unlock the Smithing Anvil. Use the Smithing Anvil to craft the Bronze Logging Axe using 5x Bronze Bar, 4x Ash Logs, and 2x Coarse Thread.
For the Iron Axe, follow the steps below:
- Once you have the Bronze Axe, you can chop down Oak Trees for Oak Logs.
- Mine for Iron Ores and smelt them in the Furnace to obtain Iron Bars.
- Craft the Iron Logging Axe at the Smithing Anvil using 6x Iron Bar, 4x Oak Logs, and 2x Wool Thread.
