What is the Stone Slab in BG3?
The Stone Slab is a secret passageway within the Enclave Library that connects with the Underground Passage. It is mainly for sneaking in and out of Emerald Grove or Druid’s Grove if the Druids have become hostile to you. You can easily make your way out of Emerald Grove without other Druids knowing.
In your initial playthrough, opening the stone slab might not seem important unless you get trapped due to neglecting Nettie’s offering. However, choosing a different route for your alternative playthroughs will let you experience a new way of progressing the story.
Why should you open the stone slab in BG3?
The main reason for opening the Stone Slab is to get out of the Enclave Library and escape from Emerald Grove. If your choices have concluded in getting yourself trapped by Nettie, then you must open the Stone Slab. Moreover, opening the Stone Slab will let you discover a Wolf Statue. Beneath the wolf statue is a Hidden Vault from where you can get very good loot, including the Sorrow.
You can open the path to the Hidden Vault by placing four Runes on the pedestals around the statue. Place the Rune of the Wolf, Rune of the Eagle, Rune of the Bear, and Rune of the Elk to open the path. Head down the staircase to get to the Hidden Vault and get yourself some decent loot in the early game.

Step 1 – Kill Nettie
The first and straightforward method to get the Key of the Ancients is to Kill Nettie. If you refuse to take the poison from her or attack her after she traps you, she will become hostile. Now, the only way to progress is for you to take down Nettie. Attack and defeat her to loot the Key of the Ancients Use any critical weapon like Ice Knife to defeat her in a single hit.
NOTE: Eliminating Nettie will not affect the story. Moreover, the Druids will not get alerted if you kill Nettie after getting trapped.
Step 2 – Steal it from Findal or Loot it from Findal’s Corpse
The second step is to get it from Findal in the Underground Passage area. You can get it before entering the Enclave Library. To find Findal, enter the Underground Passage area from the Stone Door outside the Emerald Gove. You will find Findal getting tortured by the Goblins in the Underground Passage.
Engage with the Goblins and eliminate all of them to get to the unconscious Findal. Here, you will get the choice of either saving him or eliminating him. If you choose to save him, then you can steal the Key of the Ancients from him. Moreover, if you eliminate Findal, you can loot the Key of the Ancients from his body.
After getting the Key, you can make your way to the Slab Door in the Underground Passage area, and access the Enclave Library without interacting with Nettie. So, getting the Key of the Ancients early from Findal will be more suitable for you if do not want to kill Nettie.
