FragPunk is a brand new 5v5 shooter that mixes hero elements with card-based gameplay. This unique take on the hero shooter genre, paired with its stylized punk visuals, allows FragPunk to carve its own identity among other games in the genre. The game blends in chaotic action shooting gameplay with strategic elements through the use of hero abilities.
The game also brings in new cards that randomize the rules for each round, keeping things fresh. With the game bringing so many new features to the table, there is a lot to be excited about ahead of its March 6 release date. In this article, we shall list out 5 reasons for you to be excited about FragPunk.
1) A Mix of Call of Duty and Valorant
FragPunk brings in the fluid gunplay of Call of Duty and mixes it in with the hero-shooter elements of Valorant. The movement is smooth, with the movement feeling more like Call of Duty than CSGO. This style of movement also translates incredibly well on consoles, allowing a greater number of players to jump in and feel comfortable. Movement is only half the equation, and the various hero abilities come into play, adding a layer of strategy to the game. This game is the best of both worlds, and we are beyond excited.
2) Unique Aesthetic
FragPunk brings in a unique aesthetic where it mixes realistic graphics with punk visuals and colors. The visuals are a lot like Need for Speed Unbound, mixing the real with the stylized. This look makes all of the game’s maps look completely unique, adding personality to all of them. Furthermore, despite the abundance of color and clutter in each game, it never takes away from the match in any way.
3) It’s Free To Play!
The biggest thing working in favor of FragPunk is that the game is entirely free to play. This is doubly exciting as we get very few games with COD-esque mechanics and polish that are free to play. All of the maps and heroes are free, allowing players to experience the game to its fullest with no hurdles.
The F2P nature is not without its perils, however, as the game does hold several elements of microtransactions scattered throughout. But since the game is entirely free, the cost of entry is zero, and there is no loss if you hop in and realize that the game does not cater to you.
4) Each Match Plays Out Different
One of FragPunk’s star mechanics is its introduction of Shard Cards. These cards are modifiers that are applied to your match, altering your gameplay and competitive experience. These Shard Cards could alter your jump height, enable fire damage, inflict lightning, switch up roles, resurrect you, and so much more. With over 100 Shard Cards available at launch, the possibilities are endless, and each round will play out differently, keeping things fresh for hours.
5) 13 Heroes at Launch
While Shard Cards may be the star attraction for FragPunk, it is still very much a hero shooter at heart. The game is launching on March 6, 2025, with 13 heroes (called Lancers) available from the get-go. All of these heroes bring in their own sets of abilities. Some Lancers use deployable drones to scout, others use lightning-infused smoke, one uses an electro-magnetic sniper rifle, and many more. Mix the hero abilities with the Shard Cards, and you can mess around with endless combinations to find your perfect playstyle.
