Before you begin your quest to find Shards for Eiland in Fields of Mistria, make sure to grab a pickaxe or shovel. If you have already completed the Do Bro a Favor quest, you will have a Pickaxe. Additionally, you can buy a Shovel for 500 Tesserae from the general store.

After you obtain a pickaxe or shovel, head to the Western Ruins, located west of the Narrows. Once you arrive at the Ruins, use your digging tool to dig at the excavation points. However, you might not find any Shards on your first try. You can get some other items such as peat, random artifacts, and sod.

After you have obtained Shards, give them to Eiland to earn the reward of 50 Tesserae.

If you want Shards at any point during the game, you can return to the excavation site, as these Shards respawn daily. In addition, if you desire to increase the number of excavation spots, unlock the Western Ruins Scholar perk with the help of Caldrus.
