As Rainbow Six Siege cruises through its 10th year, Ubisoft aims to make it the strongest season for the game yet. The developers took to the stage to share their plans for the game, starting with its soft reboot with Siege X and Operation Daybreak.

Operation Daybreak, releasing June 10, 2025, marks the official transition of Siege to Siege X. The new season brings in free-to-play access, an operator remaster, a brand-new game mode, and so much more. There’s a lot to cover with Operation Daybreak, so let’s get to it.

Siege X, Free-To-Play Access, and Dual Front

As stated earlier, Operation Daybreak marks the official transition of Siege to Siege X. Siege X is an overhaul of Siege. This overhaul keeps the core of the gameplay but introduces a shiny new skin through enhanced visuals and UI updates. The shiny new skin will be immediately noticeable in the 5 new modernized maps releasing in Operation Daybreak. These unnamed maps will see massive visual tweaks to bring them in line with the visual overhaul.

In addition to the visual and performance improvements, Siege X also brings a new 6v6 multiplayer game mode: Dual Front. The new game mode is enhanced with slight tweaks to the game’s maps, rappel system, communication wheel, and much more. There are now fire extinguishers and other interactive maps scattered across. These changes increase the skill ceiling.

For the first time, Siege also goes free-to-play with the launch of Operation Daybreak and Siege X. This means you can finally invite your friends to join you in the game without any monetary elevator pitch.

Clash Remaster

Operation Daybreak will not come with a new operator, but instead, choose to remaster Clash. Clash has been a frustrating operator to both play and deal with, and the devs are accounting for that. The Clash remaster builds Clash from the ground up.

Clash returns with a new, redesigned CCE Shield. At a glance, this shield works just the same as the original. Clash stands behind, tazing her opponents with electricity and slowing them down. Look deeper, however, and you’ll see that the shield is deployable.

Yes, Clash can put her shield down and can also manually activate her tazers. Furthermore, the new shield allows for faster movement, allowing the operator to break through barricades and relocate easily. This will allow Clash players greater flexibility and will finally make the operator useful overall.

Unranked Is Back

The Unranked game mode makes its return. This game mode follows the same rules as Ranked, also retaining the competitive mode’s map pool. This mode acts as a bridge, allowing newer players to familiarize themselves with the game’s competitive settings environment without the worries of losing any elo.

Smoother Onboarding for New Players

Note that Siege X marks 10 years of Siege; jumping into the game is harder than ever, especially for a new player. Siege X introduces a newbie playlist and beginner challenges. These beginner challenges introduce you to the game’s fundamentals, adding in two new challenges every two levels up to Level 20.

As far as the newbie playlists go, the game introduces the Enlisted playlist. This playlist features a smaller pool of maps (competitive maps) where players play against AI. You can adjust the difficulty of the AI to ease yourself into the playlist and game.

New Pick and Ban System

Operation Daybreak is introducing a new Pick and Ban system that will completely change the way you approach competitive matches in Siege X. Previously, the ban phase was at the beginning of the match. This made for rigid strategies that stuck through entire rounds. Now, this new system makes the players ban operators every single round. Teams will ban one operator each for each round. This will allow both teams greater flexibility in attack/defense strategy. It will also reward players who adapt fast by incorporating ever-changing round-to-round strategies.

Changes for Veterans

Keeping the veteran players in mind, Siege X is adding a Field Training playlist. This playlist is like the terrorist hunt of old, but against other operators. The mode makes you play against AI trained in player behavior, getting you ready for the challenges ahead.

The devs are also incorporating a Skill Decay feature. This feature lowers the skill rating for players who go on a break for 90 days or more. The idea is to ease the player’s experience when they come back after their break. If you left the game in an Emerald skill tier, the game will automatically reduce your skill to a lower level. This will ensure you’re not overwhelmed in your first game back.

Operation Banter

Siege X is expanding its universe and lore by adding in Operator Banters to matches. Yes, the operators will now banter and talk to each other in certain moments of the match. These interactions intend to bring out operator personalities more, expanding on Siege’s ever-growing Universe.

Career Stats Tracker

After years of pleading, Siege X is finally bringing in a Career Stats Tracker. You no longer have to open the tracker websites and, instead, can access all the information you need in-game. Simply head over to the Career page and select the “Statistics” menu to the right. The game will then display your hours played, matches played, matches won, and so much more. These are account-based stats, which are then broken down across the various game modes and seasons.

Siege Cup Changes

Siege Cup will now be available on select weekends instead of the seemingly random weekends earlier. This will allow players to plan out their Siege Cup weekends ahead of time, preparing better for the challenges ahead.

With Siege Cup being more frequent from Operation Daybreak, the devs have also promised to introduce new content to the competitive packs each season. This will push more players to try out the hyper-competitive game mode.

Esports Tab

Taking a play off of the CSGO playbook, Siege X is finally introducing an Esports tab. This tab allows players to keep track of the game’s thriving Esports scene much more easily. Gone are the days when you had to scroll through social media to find match info. Now, you can simply open up the Esports tab to find out anything you need to know about the Esports tournaments.

Balancing Updates

  • Reduction to Global Limb Damage Multiplier: In Operation Daybreak, the devs have tuned the damage to limbs. Shots do less damage to limbs from the upcoming season. This is intended to reward skilled players who land headshots and will truly separate the good from the great.

  • Electricity is now a neutral element: Much like fire, electricity will now impact players on both sides of the board in Operation Daybreak. Previously, players using the electricity effects were immune to it. Now, the effect affects both teams equally. This means just as electricity could destroy Thermite’s exothermic charges, it can now destroy Jager’s ADSs.

Operator Balancing

  • Shields are seeing a tune-up in Operation Daybreak. Shield players will no longer be able to ADS and vault at the same time. The vault animation will cancel the ADS, leaving the shield player exposed. This will make it easier to deal with shields and reduce player frustrations.

  • Blackbeard’s glass changes: The sounds of Blackbeard’s glass moving up and down have been enhanced. This will give you better clarity on the attacker’s status, letting you attack at the opportune moment. The glass has also been tinted, increasing the visual clarity as well.

  • Jackal scans will now ping the defenders only once, forcing the Jackal to attack right away.

  • Jager’s ADS will now be able to stop Capitao bolts and Gridlock trax. This will open up new avenues of defense in maps such as Bank and Clubhouse.

  • Kona stations no longer heal enemies.

  • Sledge can now use his hammer against Clash to knock her down. This will reduce frustrations when dealing with the oppressive shield operator.
