Why Should You Get The Whistler’s Whim Combat Bow?

The Whistler’s Whim is a lightweight frame kinetic bow obtainable from Trials of Osiris. Bows are incredibly strong in late game PVE for their damage as a primary and their anti-champion potentials. They allow a relatively safe playstyle like pulses and scouts but without the negative of having to traditionally reload when you need to stun a champion. For PVP, they have their niche usage of being a great team weapon letting you land a lot of damage in one shot allowing your teammates to follow up with a shot to secure a elimination.

How to Obtain Whistler’s Whim and God Roll in Destiny 2

Whistler’s Whim can be obtained from any Trials of Osiris Reward source, which includes the Weekly challenges for winning 7 matches and winning rounds. It can also randomly drop from Trials engrams. Whistler’s Whim (Adept) can only be earned by completing a flawless Trials of Osiris Passage by winning 7 matches without losing. Once the weapon has been earned you can focus it at Saint-14 for Trials Engrams, Glimmer, and Legendary Shards. The Adept version can only be focused on the Weeks it is the weekly Flawless reward and only with a 7 win Passage.

Bowstring: For the bowstring our choice is the Polymer String. This gives us a boost in accuracy which the bow lacks in as well as decreasing our draw time allowing us to fire more arrows faster.

Arrow: We are going with the Fiberglass Arrow Shaft because it gives us the highest accuracy bonus in the arrow slot. With an already low base accuracy its important we stack into this as much as we can.

Column 3 Trait: Rapid Hit is our choice here as it grants a stacking increase to our stability, reload, and a reload multiplier after landing precision hits. Reload being the more important stat of this perk as it allows us to nock our arrows faster, allowing us to draw the arrow sooner.

Column 4 Trait: Final perk choice is Archer’s Tempo. This is a community favorite on bows as it decreases your draw time lower than base draw time after simply landing precision hits. This gives great synergy with our Rapid Hit perk increasing our reload and decreasing our draw time with precision hits.

Origin Trait: The obvious choice in this column is Veist Stinger as it gives a decrease of draw time when it procs just further decreases how long between when we draw our next arrow.

Masterwork: Our masterwork of choice is Draw Time. A Draw Time masterwork paired with our string of choice gives us the lowest base draw time of a lightweight frame before perks.

Mod: Since bows are primary used in late game PVE, most enemies that don’t die quickly are champions are higher health enemies. For those reasons we are going with Major Spec for the mod as it will increase that damage versus major enemies and champions. For the adept version of the bow we are going with Adept Big Ones.

Conclusion: Bows are incredibly strong in PVE and Whistler’s Whim is no slouch. Being the only currently obtainable adept bow this weapon also has the benefit of adept mods. While the Whistler’s Whim lacks the tradition bow perk combo of archer’s tempo/explosive head it still is incredibly strong with its reload perks and draw time perks.

Column 3 Trait: We are going with Moving Target. Moving Target gives a boost in your aim assist as well as gives a speed increase while aiming down sights. Since the common method of gunfights include moving to the left and right erratically to make your enemies miss, this perk can give you the edge in any engagement.

Column 4 Trait: Opening shot is a must have perk here. A tried and true favorite for PVP weapons for its increased range, accuracy, and aim assist on your first shot of an engagement.

Mod: Freehand Grip is the mod of choice as it gives us a little extra accuracy and ready speed when firing from the hip giving us a better chance to land a shot in those close range engagements. For the adept version of the weapon, an Adept Draw Time mod is the choice.

Conclusion: Bows are a team based weapon requiring a teammate to follow up any precision hit with damage of their own. They are also incredibly weak if you get rushed and are extremely unforgiving should you miss your shots. For these reasons, its a niche weapon in PVP. Although Whistler’s Whim does has a great perk selection to make landing your shots easier and with a good team this weapon can be devastating for your enemies to face.
