According to 2K, Cap Breakers were added to NBA 2K25 in response to player feedback. The fan community wanted a method for raising attribute ratings above the maximum “caps” that are usually set when creating a player build. For instance, let’s assume your Shot IQ attribute is set to 90. By applying two Cap Breakers, you can increase this to a 92 Shot IQ rating. You’ll also gain access to any Animations, Badges, or Takeovers that call for a 92 Shot IQ. In this case, the maximum possible cap for your Shot IQ will be 95.
If your build is limited to 90 Shot IQ during creation, you could set Shot IQ to 85 instead. Now, once you’ve collected your first 5 Cap Breakers, you may use them all on Shot IQ to boost it to 90. If you set Shot IQ to 87 instead, you would only be allowed to use 3 Cap Breakers on this attribute.
Once you unlock a Cap Breaker, you can use it on any save. This is because it’s a user-based reward for your profile. Most importantly, you should keep in mind that when you apply a Cap Breaker to an attribute, it will be a permanent change for that save.

You can unlock Cap Breakers through REP rewards in 2K’s latest basketball simulation title. So, you’ll have to keep playing the game and grinding for REP. You can unlock 15 Cap Breakers in total through the REP system in the game. This includes 5 Cap Breakers each at the Starter III, Veteran II, and Legend I REP levels.

- Before using a Cap Breaker, you must advance an attribute to its maximum possible rating.
