Ever since the game was in Early Access, Larian Studios’ beloved RPG title has boasted the Phase Spider Matriarch as one of the toughest opponents it has to offer. You will face this enemy as you make your way to the perilous Underdark. The boss fight is very demanding as the Matriarch can summon smaller enemies and has a massive health bar.

How to Defeat the Phase Spider Matriarch in Baldur’s Gate 3
Since the battle against the Spider Matriarch takes place in a cave, it is suggested that you bring characters that have darkvision. This includes characters like Elves, Gnomes, and Half-Elves. You can also use light spells like Light or Dancing Lights to help with this obstacle.
Use Spiderstep Boots
The very first thing you need to do before taking on the Phase Spider Matriarch is to equip the Spiderstep Boots. This simple item allows you to become immune to Enwebbed, which ties characters up in webs and prevents them from moving. However, only one member of your party can equip the Spiderstep Boots at a time. This means you will have to focus on ranged attacks for this fight. Only the character with the Spiderstep Boots should utilize melee attacks in this fight.
Destroy Spider Eggs
When you explore the area where you find the boss, you can find spider eggs scattered around. It is recommended that you sneak into the fight so you can take some of these spider eggs before the fight starts. This reduces the number of enemies you have to face during the battle. However, the boss can spawn more spider eggs during the fight, so you have to constantly destroy them so that you don’t get overwhelmed by spiderlings.
Focus on the Boss
During the fight, your primary focus should be on the Phase Spider Matriarch rather than her adds. The spiders have a teleport ability that they can use to phase in and out of reality. However, you can use this to your advantage by baiting the spiders to where you want them.
While you can shove the Matriarch into the pit in the arena, this will prevent you from looting her body. You can use elemental attacks and spells, especially fire-based abilities to wear the boss down. It is recommended that your party splits focus during the battle. This will allow one-half of your party to constantly take down the spiderlings while the other half focuses on the Phase Spider Matriarch.
