How To Get All the Endings in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Dragon Age: The Veilguard widely offers three endings when not counting the varied combinations. Here’s how to get all the endings.

Similar to earlier titles in the franchise, Dragon Age: The Veilguard offers multiple endings and discovering all the possible endings is a hallmark of a true fan. We will guide you in exploring these endings, allowing you to choose your own path.

The game widely offers three endings. A favorable one, an unfavorable scenario, and a secret ending. However, the outcome also has multiple variations, which can drastically differ during individual playthroughs. These depend largely on the following factors:

  • Maintaining a good star rating with factions becomes crucial if you want the ‘good’ ending. If you do their quests and sell the valuables to a faction’s merchant, the rating will go up and reach 3 stars.
  • Don’t sleep on your companions’ storylines. Complete them and let them become Heroes of the Veilguard. You can do so by talking to them in the lighthouse.
  • Pay attention to what task you assign to which companion from Chapter 12 to Chapter 14. If you fail to assign the right task to the fitting companion, the consequences in the endgame won’t be good.

With this out of the way, we shall explore the three endings and how to get them. It’s mostly a matter of dialogue options and gameplay.

Getting the Good One out of All Endings in the Veilguard

The ‘best’ ending is the one where the fewest casualties happen. In order to achieve it and gain an achievement/trophy called The Ones That Last, you need to make a few crucial choices. Things start in Chapter 6. During the mission, A Warden’s Best Friend, when given the option, saves Minrathous (Dock Town) instead of Treviso. If you don’t, Dock Town will stay stuck at 1 star, and one of their faction leaders will also die.

In Chapter 12, during the Isle of the Gods mission, you have to assign the perfect candidate to lead the distraction team. Davrin and Harding should be your final options after narrowing things down. Whoever leads the said team will die for sure. So, if you are romancing Lace Harding in the game, you might want to protect her by choosing Davrin instead. Choose Bellara or Neve to take down the wards in the same chapter, and one of them will get taken away. It could show you that the companion is dead, but don’t worry just yet. Next, you take the two people you did not choose earlier and rescue whoever was taken away while taking down the wards.

Assign companions to specific roles in Chapter 13 during The Last Gambit through the table in Lucanis’s Quarters. Assigning the right candidate to the right task will increase their chances of survival. Assign Taash to protect Veil Jumpers, Lucanis to protect Antivan Crows, and Harding or Davrin to protect Grey Wardens/Mourn Watch. Once you arrive in the safe town with multiple NPCs, make sure to do the optional objective to honor the fallen with the blue quest marker.

During The Dread Wolf Rises in Chapter 14, assign companions to tasks again. Have Taash defend Divine Manor and try taking Harding and Neve or Davrin and Bellara to the mission with you. Once you defeat the boss, select the following dialogues: “Let’s try this your way” and then “I wish things were different.”

After the cutscene, you will see everybody has survived except Davrin or Harding (whoever you assigned to be the distraction leader in Chapter 12). Make sure to complete all your regional quests and upgrade all your companions to Heroes of The Veilguard before the point of no return in Chapter 11. During the quest When Plans Align, you can check whether your companions have indeed reached the hero status and whether the allies will support you from a position of strength.

Unlocking the Bad One, out of All Endings

The worst ending, in our opinion, is simply the scenario where the most casualties happen in terms of allies. For whatever reasons you decide to reach this ending, do exactly the opposite of what we suggested for the good ending. Don’t complete any regional quests and receive a 1-star rating for all factions. Similarly, don’t do any of the quests from your companions. When you reach Chapters 12 to 14, assign companions to wrong tasks. Now watch along as your team members start dropping like flies.

Not All Endings Come Easy

Before you reach the point of no return in Chapter 11, make sure to collect all these items to unlock a secret ending afterwards. You won’t have access to this secret ending after completing the story if you don’t complete the required pre-requisite quest.

First, complete the Regrets of the Dread Wolf side quest to earn Mythal’s Essence as a reward. The first Mysterious Circle is located in the Arlathan Forest, on a small island. Shine all the lasers in the area at the crystals on the island where the circle is found. A bridge will appear to help you reach there.

The second Mysterious Circle can be found in Necropolis Hall. To access it, unlock The Unbound trophy/achievement and defeat the necessary boss in the same room before locating the circle.

Finally, the third Mysterious Circle is located at the Crossroads. Complete The Heart of Corruption quest, defeat three champions, and unlock the door at the beginning of the Crossroads. After that, return to the room with the Revenant Dragon and you will find the last Mysterious Circle on your left where you can climb up.

Now, when you reach the end and pair it with the good ending, there will be a bonus cutscene waiting for you after the credits. Hopefully, you find it worth the extra effort!
