Dragon Age: The Veilguard sees Bioware flex its intricate character creator, with hundreds of options allowing you to create the perfect character. The game lets you pick the class of your choice but takes it a step beyond by letting you pick a specialization. Each class has three specializations to pick from, all offering a distinct playstyle. The specializations mixed with the classes ensure that each player has a playstyle exclusive to themselves. In the early game, these specializations play a crucial role, given the advantages they offer.

In this guide, we shall go over the best early-game specializations in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Warrior Specialization

The Warrior class plays and functions similarly to a traditional knight, with a melee weapon and shield as your base options. The class encourages you to take fights head-on, and more often than not, you will find enemies breathing down on your face.

The Warrior offers three specializations to choose from: the Champion, the Slayer, and the Reaper. Out of these, the Reaper is undoubtedly the best specialization to pick. The Reaper allows you to heal every time you deal Necrotic damage, enticing you to take the fight to the enemies in a back-and-forth affair. Alternatively, you can pair the heal with the Reaper’s Shield Toss, which allows you to throw your shield like Captain America while simultaneously recovering health.

The specialization also has the Spirit Storm ability, which creates a whirlwind that can run through enemies like a hot knife through butter and heal you at the same time. What we mean to say is the Reaper might just be the best specialization in the game.

Mage Specialization

The Mage class allows you to pick and choose fights as you please while also providing support to your companions. The class comes equipped with several flashy magical abilities that can cleave through enemies with elemental weaknesses. We recommend picking the Death Caller specialization for the Mage class. This specialization deals Nectoric damage and steals enemy HP, ensuring that you are never down low if you play your cards right.

The Spellblade specialization is a good alternative, allowing you to indulge in a different playstyle. Spellblade allows you to deal large chunks of AOE damage and also allows you to fight in melee range if you crave a Warrior-like experience but with cool magical abilities.

Rogue Specialization

The Rogue class is a unique class that requires you to be swift with your movement and strikes and gain momentum. The Rogue moves like a ninja to strike around and fall back to a distance. The class also comes equipped with ranged weapons, making the Rogue a jack-of-all-trades in a manner.

The Veil Ranger is the best specialization for this class, as it allows you to live out your thief/ninja playstyle fantasies. You can pick your fights from a distance with ranged weapons and lay traps in the arena to kill enemies sneakily while they’re distracted by your party. This specialization is especially useful in the early game as you’re figuring out the game’s mechanics.
