Squad Synergy is real in Dragon Age: The Veilguard even if you don’t see a menu for it. Let us ease you into the concept and excel in combat.

In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, squad synergies are crucial. You can typically select two characters, but sometimes one is required for a specific quest or recruited during it. When exploring, pair characters wisely, as they complement each other in pairs. One applies status effects like Sundered, Weakened, or Overwhelmed, while the other detonates them for increased damage.

Sundered increases damage taken, Weakened reduces enemy damage, and Overwhelmed adds Stagger damage. Some party members work particularly well together.

Setting Up Your Squad Based on Synergy

Lucanis and Taash

Taash leads combat with Fire, while Lucanis deals Necrosis damage to enemies. This is something that works well with this pair. If you need a tip, you can try using the Spitfire ability from Taash and then follow it with Lucanis’ Eviscerate ability. These two can deal 302 fire damage and 378 necrotic damage, respectively.

Bellara and Davrin

This duo can be literally electrifying. Bellara can easily apply the Weakened status on enemies, which is when Davrin can come in and save the day using his abilities. Weakened enemies can be overpowered using Davrin’s fire damage without much trouble.

They can help dominate the battlefield in a matter of seconds. Use Bellara’s Enfeebling Shot and apply 226 Electricity Damage. Follow these up with Davrin’s Death From Above ability to deal up to 263 fire damage.

Harding and Neve

The first two party members that you receive during the prologue quest are Harding and Neve. Both of them are formidable allies in a fight. The Sundered effect works great with these two. Harding deals physical damage while Neve can bring the ice element to the table.

You can use Harding’s Shred ability to deal 263 physical damage and then use Neve’s Icebreaker for 363 cold damage. Rook’s dwarven companion is the one who can apply Sundered to exploit enemies further.

Taash and Emmrich

Taash and Emmrich have an interesting chemistry together. While the former isn’t a fan of the undead, Professor Emmrich Volkarin is a necromancer. This is what makes their squad synergy more unique than others.

Moreover, Emmrich can apply the Weakened status effect on enemies, only for Taash to detonate it. You can always use Entangling Spirits from Emmrich’s abilities to deal 243 necrotic damage. Follow this up using Taash’s Dragonfire Strike to deal 453 fire damage.

We may not have been able to cover all the squad synergies because the game doesn’t directly tell you about it. So, feel free to experiment with different combinations and see whether a different set of characters works best for you!
