Player choices and decisions are paramount when it comes to the role-playing experience. These decisions can range from story choices that branch the narrative to the very appearance and class of your character. In this regard, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is no different. Player decisions are paramount every step of the way, but the first and most important decision you make is picking your class in character creator. Dragon Age: The Veilguard adds depth to this choice by adding specializations, the game’s version of sub-classes, each with their own perks. The Rogue class in The Veilguard has three specializations: the Duelist, the Veil Ranger, and the Saboteur.

In this guide, we shall go over the three classes and rank them on the basis of their performance.

3) The Duelist

We want to start this list off by making it clear that all of these specializations are good and unique in their own ways, but some just happen to be more fun. The Duelist is one of the more aggressive specializations in the game and focuses on close-range combat. While the Duelist does very little to stand out on its own, its high-risk, high-reward style gameplay pumps adrenaline like nothing else. The fast melee-based combat will see you fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee, Muhammad Ali style.

2) The Veil Ranger

The Veil Ranger class sees you do your best Robin Hood impression by handing you a bow. The marksman-style gameplay sees you pick and choose fights at a range and provides sufficient variety through electricity damage and charged shots to keep things fresh. Most importantly, the specialization lets you pick fights from a position of comfort. But this is turned on its head in the late game where the mobs are larger in size and can easily close in on you.

1) The Saboteur

Okay, keep the pitchforks down. We know this is a controversial pick as many consider this to be one of the weaker specializations in the game, and to an extent, we agree. But the Saboteur offers one of the most unique combat experiences in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Instead of picking fights from a safe distance or just bum-rushing the enemy, the Saboteur runs along the field, setting traps and using bombs to lure enemies into an ambush. The combat is strategy-driven, and you have a bow to fall back on. The specialization requires you to be hyper-aware of your surroundings and your gadgets while staying on the move at all times. If you are willing to look past a relatively low damage output, we highly recommend trying out the Saboteur for strategic gameplay.
