Rathbreaker is a boss you cannot avoid in Path of Exile 2 (PoE2). Here’s a quick guide to put down this evil once and for all.
Once you reach Act 2, you can’t visit beyond Vastiri Outskirts without defeating Rathbreaker. He is the first boss that you face in this Act and there is no escaping him. However, since he is not optional, don’t mistake him for an easy foe.
He has a few attacks up his sleeves that can deal significant damage. And on top of it all, his helpers, who are otherwise unapproachable, will continue attacking you. So, it is important for us to study our enemy first before heading into the battle.
Rathbreaker’s Attacks in PoE2
The fight starts when the players and their minions climb atop the V-shaped cliff. The Rathbreaker is standing on the south end of this cliff. He is not alone here, though.
First, his hyenas will welcome you. Once you climb the cliff, you will find there are archers on top of another wall ahead of you that you can’t reach. Moreover, there are a couple of cronies near Rathbreaker as well.
Rathbreaker’s Goons
Some of the miscellaneous attacks that you need to look out for come from the archers on the plateau above. As you are reaching the boss, they will rain their arrows mercilessly that can inflict a lot of damage on you. Furthermore, there are Cronies that look similar to Rathbreaker (except that he has white hair). They typically deal melee damage.
Rathbreaker’s Small Variety of Attacks
The only melee attack that you will find on Rathbreaker is a diagonal slash. This is sometimes followed by a backhand slash into a ground pound. He will either do these three attacks as a combo or break it down to do them separately if you kite him around too much.
He also has a ranged attack of two projectiles that don’t deal much damage, but they are best avoided by rolling out of harm’s way.
Apart from these two, you may see him charging at you if he happens to have created some distance. This is a closing attack and can deal some serious damage.
Beating Rathbreaker in PoE2
Tackling Rathbreaker’s and his goons’ attacks is pretty straightforward. We want you to start by prioritizing smaller enemies first and then begin hurting the boss.
- If you hadn’t already, defeat the hyenas before climbing the cliff. This will make your life much easier.
- Once you are on the cliff, head straight to the southernmost edge. Otherwise, the archers on top will bombard you with arrows at regular intervals. If you are down south, they will stay inactive.
- Don’t put much too distance between yourself and the boss. If you happen to gain some distance and see him charging at you, just dodge out of the way. He can’t lock in. So, it’s pretty easy to get out of the way.
- Keep evading the melee attacks and attack only at the right opportunity. Be patient and don’t rush. Once he uses the ground-pound attack, jumping out of the way will stun the boss for a slight moment.
Keep these cues in mind while fighting the Rathbreaker, and you will be able to make quick work of him. Wrap up this quest and charge ahead further into the campaign!
