You’ve made your way through Act 1 of Path of Exile 2, facing countless trials and enemies along the way. You’ve discovered various locations, completed several quests, found hidden loot, and familiarized yourself with the game’s mechanics. Just as you’re finally comfortable with everything, Path of Exile 2 throws Count Geonor at you.

The final boss of Act 1, Count Geonor, is one of the hardest enemies in the game that tests everything you’ve learned through Act 1. In this Path of Exile 2 (PoE2) boss guide, we shall go over how to defeat Count Geonor, the final boss of Act 1.

Where To Find Count Geonor

As we stated earlier, Count Geonor is found at the end of Act 1 and acts as the gatekeeper for the second act of the game. You will find him as part of the “Mad Wolf of Ogham Quest” inside Ogham Manor (Monster Level 15). Work your way through the manor to its depths past the three floors to find the final boss of Act 1 in Path of Exile 2.

How To Beat Count Geonor

Count Geonor has three phases that you must go through. Each phase tests a different mechanical skill and requires varying levels of healing resources. Below, we’ve gone over the three phases.

First Phase

The first phase of the boss fight is straightforward, as Count Geonor (in his human form) will be throwing predictable attacks. The attacks include standard sword strikes, thrusts, charges, and wolf summons. While the sword attacks are predictable, they hit hard and can drain a ton of your HP if careful.

Count Geonor also partially transforms into a wolf in this phase and summons small wolves to assist him in battle. Circle around the arena while dodging the Count and pick off the wolves one at a time. In this form, you also want to watch out for his jump AOE attack.

Anytime you see him go up in flames and up in the air, be ready to bail. The AOE is marked by a red circle, and you will have a second to dodge it. The Count will stay in the wolf form for a limited time, so the wolf rush is just a matter of attrition and survival.

We recommend mastering this phase to complete it without using any healing resources, as you’ll need them more later.

Second Phase

Phase 2 is where the boss fight really begins. Count Geonor summons Oriana and then transforms into the Putrid Wolf, completely and permanently. His new form moves faster, hits harder, and is seemingly erratic and unpredictable. Once again, you will have to watch out for his jump attacks. He does them more often in this phase, and mixes and matches with his other attacks.

Additionally, watch out for his light beams and ground spit attacks. The ground spits will freeze you, leaving you open to his other attacks. The light beams emerge from the ground and give you a mere two-second window to dodge. Stay out of the light to survive. We recommend carrying charms that provide cold resistance to pass through this phase and the next.

Geonor will also summon his wolf pack in this phase but with an added twist. A blinding mist covers the whole arena as the summoned wolves corner you, and Geonor dashes around, slashing and reverting to the mist.

Third Phase

Phase 3 begins when Count Geonor is down to his final quarter of health. The phase adds one new move to Count Geonor’s arsenal. He brings in his lethal Red Beams that emerge from the ground and deal AOE damage. The boss telegraphs this attack by raising his sword. He can use these lethal beam attacks in a combo with his other attacks, making this phase the hardest. We recommend rushing him down and finishing him off with a series of strikes to prevent him from using the Red Beams effectively.
