Discover all of the hidden secrets you can find in our comprehensive guide to the Lighthouse in Dragon Age: The Veilguard!
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is BioWare’s fourth major entry into the fan-favorite Dragon Age series. This time around the player protagonist, Rook, has been tasked with gathering allies in a fight against demons, darkspawn, and ancient gods. Along the way, you’ll also have a chance to recruit several companions as you build your strength. Moreover, you’ll need a base of operations where your enemies can’t find you and events provide you with the Lighthouse. Located in the Fade, this central tower is surrounded by additional small homes and grows along with your group. In the following guide, we’ll cover all the details about the secrets you can find in the Lighthouse. The puzzles, library doors, appearance change mirror, wardrobe, and more are all found in this comprehensive guide to the Lighthouse in Dragon Age: The Veilguard!
Lighthouse Overview in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
In Dragon Age: The Veilguard the Lighthouse serves as the group’s headquarters, providing safety and security as you gather allies to confront the gods. Because it is located inside the Fade, the gods cannot discover your exact location and you and your companions can make your plans.
Additionally, the Lighthouse itself was once the personal sanctum of Solas, the Dread Wolf. From this base of operations, he could use his eluvian, a mystical portal called Vi’Revas, to travel to any other eluvian in Thedas. However, the eluvian requires Solas’ lyrium dagger to work properly, so you will not be able to travel these roads until you retrieve it.
Lighthouse Location: How to get to the Lighthouse?
You will reach the Lighthouse automatically in Dragon Age: The Veilguard as you play through the main story quests. This will happen relatively early on in the game after you have confronted Solas during his attempted ritual.
As you escape at the end of the ritual, you and your companions will escape through a nearby eluvian. Though unplanned, when you awake after the battle you will discover that the eluvian has brought you to the Lighthouse. Your few companions are already making themselves comfortable, as much as they can, and you can begin exploring the space.
At the beginning, it will seem like there isn’t much room for new people, but as you gather allies the Lighthouse will provide for them. Each of your companions will get their own dedicated space. Some inside the main tower with you, while others will get separate small ‘homes’ outside.
Be careful, as the Lighthouse is floating in the Fade and there is no ground below. As Harding states, “If you put a foot wrong, you’ll fall forever.”
How to open the Lighthouse Doors in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
In the Lighthouse tower’s central room, you will notice two circular doors, one on each side, that each have three small receptacles around them. These doors won’t automatically open like all of the others in the tower and you’ll have to solve a series of puzzles before you can see what is inside the last room.
The puzzle that opens the first library door can be solved as soon as you arrive at the Lighthouse after the confrontation with Solas. However, the other doors cannot be opened until you have reached certain points in the main story quest. We’ll explain all of the details in the walkthrough below.
Opening the Library Door
To start the puzzle that opens the first library door (the one to the north) read the plaque on the wall that states: “Three meetings, face-to-face, under the skies.” This refers to three statue pairings, which must be moved so that they are facing each other.
The first set is quite easy to find, simply head up the steps on either side of the central Lighthouse tower. Marked in red on the image above, these statues are close to each other, and you only have to turn them to face the center.
The second pairing is marked on the map in green. Head down and around behind Bellara’s room, and you’ll find the first statue, which you should turn to face east. If you look across the way, you should see the other statue. Next, head over to Neve’s room, but instead of going inside, jump down to the ledge on the right and walk around. The second statue is here and can be turned to face west.
The final pairing is much farther apart. Look for the blue dots in the image above. Find the first statue on the south side of the dining hall, where you’ll have to jump ledges to reach it. Then, the second statue is up the stairs around the south side of the central tower. Turn it to face east, and the door inside the tower will now open for you.
Opening the Music Door
Have you have gathered all of your companions, you can begin the process of opening the circular door you might have seen in the music room. When you first enter the music room it appears as a blank circular space on the wall. However, following the Shades of the Blight quest in Chapter 8 you should return to the music room and you’ll find a glowing wisp. Pick this wisp up and take it to one of the two new stone receptacles on either side of the door.
Next, you can find the second wisp outside the door, up the stairs in between the two close statues you moved earlier. Grab the wisp and run all the way back into the music room to the second receptacle. As soon as the wisp settles, the door should open and you’ll see a portal. Step through onto the Library balcony and activate with the blue artifact to clean up the library below.
Opening the Library Balcony Door
You may not have noticed it at first, but after going through the portal from the music room, the wall across from you on the library balcony also had circular wall space. This is yet another door you can open later on, following the completion of The Siege of Weisshaupt quest.
Return to the library balcony and you will see the locked door with one new stone receptacle. You can easily find the wisp at the end of the library balcony. The door will open and you will step through another portal.
Opening the Second Library Door
The portal from the library balcony will take you outside of the tower onto a previously inaccessible Watchtower area across from the Lighthouse. There is another treasure chest out here, as well as a crystal you can use to power a nearby energy beam. Use the beam to shoot energy into three crystals at the tops of three towers. Each crystal will release a wisp. These wisps will automatically travel to the Lighthouse, and fill the little receptacles around the second library door.
Now, head back through the portal to the library balcony and then return to the library itself. Finally, the library door on the south side of the room will open for you. You’ll enter a new space called the Wolf’s Den, with another portal that will lead to the final loot reward.
What are the benefits of opening doors in the Lighthouse in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
With each new door that you unlock in the Lighthouse you have the potential to find new codex entries, crafting materials, and treasures. Moreover, unlocking the music room door to the library balcony will let you access a glowing blue artifact. Activate this artifact and it will repair and clean up the library below, returning to its former glory.
Finally, opening the Lighthouse’s last library door will eventually lead you into the room called the Wolf’s Den, where you will find Solas’ former study. Inside are several rewards including a new codex entry, some rarer crafting materials, one smaller chest, and one major chest with an equipment upgrade.
How to Change Your Appearance using the Lighthouse in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
In Dragon Age: The Veilguard you can change your character’s physical appearance at the mirror in the infirmary (Varric’s room), or change your outfit appearance at the wardrobe in Rook’s room.
Using the mirror in the infirmary to change your character’s physical appearance will essentially take you back into the game’s character creator. However, there are some limitations to this. Once you have reached the Lighthouse you cannot use the mirror to change your lineage (race), class, or faction (backstory). All the other options will be open to you, including head and body shapes, all of the previous sliders and colors, along with tattoos, markings, and hairstyles. You can return to the mirror to change your appearance as many times as you like, for absolutely no cost.
Finally, you can use the wardrobe in Rook’s room to change the look of your character’s outfits and weapons. Using this system will allow you to wear any armor you like with the stats and traits you need, but have the appearance of any other gear you like the look of better. Additionally, many merchants will sell ‘appearance only’ versions of weapons and armor. These are usually cheaper than the actual armor piece and can open up a lot of different fashion options.
How to Upgrade Gear at the Lighthouse in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
After you have reached the Crossroards and met the Caretaker, you can upgrade your gear by visiting the Caretaker’s Workshop at the Lighthouse. The Caretaker will set up a ‘shop’ in the Lighthouse courtyard, just outside the main doors and in front of the wolf statue.
Here, you can use crafting materials to upgrade your weapons and armor, as well as the gear belonging to your companions. Additionally, around chapter 7 you will gain the ability to enchant your gear and skills. Enchanting is a free process and does not use any of your crafting materials or gold.
Finally, you can increase the levels you can upgrade your gear, and unlock new enchantments by upgrading the Rank of the Caretaker’s Workshop. You can do this by collecting Mementos. These items can be found scattered all over the world of Thedas, and typically have a light blue glow lighting up from them. Additionally, you can also find Mementos for sale from both faction vendors and regular merchants out in the world. The Caretaker’s Workshop has a max Rank of 10.
