Dragon Age: The Veilguard offers plenty of freedom if you like being a character creator. Here is all that you need to know.
The developers have given players great freedom in terms of character creation in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Creating your own character always feels a little special in an RPG. The latest addition to the Dragon Age franchise offers many choices for you to sit and ponder upon.
You might have to take a moment to sit and think about what makes your character look like a medieval fantasy hero. So, don’t waste that time trying to figure out what a certain creation tab means. We are here to sort out that out for you.
The character creation screen has a total of seven tabs. However, the soul of the customization happens in three of these tabs, namely: Appearance, Class, and Faction.
Deciding the Appearance in Your Character Creator
Decide how your character will primarily look with the help of the Appearance tab. There are many options to choose from, and you might find it overwhelming at first. So, we advise you to first select a preset and then edit the given model to ease your way into character creation. Presets are available for all genders and races to make things easy for you. Decide the head shape, complexion, tattoo designs, etc to add depth to your Rook.
You can choose between the following races: Human, Elf, Dwarf, and Qunari. All of these races have been previously introduced in former Dragon Age games. Humans are the most dominant of all races in Thedas. The Elves are the most historically oppressed ones, which can be distinguished by their slender appearance and pointed ears. Dwarves are short and strong-looking and can’t be mages because of their lack of connection with the Fade. Qunari are horned giants in the world of Thedas and have an intimidating appearance.
Picking the Perfect Class While Creating Your Character
There are three classes in the game that you can choose from. Based on your choice, whenever you reach level 20, there will be three more options for you to explore. These are called Specializations. They will grant you additional Abilities and an Ultimate Ability that resonates with the specific class you have chosen.
Warriors
As suggested by their name, warriors possess heavy brute strength and can level the battlefield with it. Though they don’t specialize in wielding any magic, their weapons alone can provide enough support in fights. The Specializations in this class are:
- Reaper: You can steal life force from your enemies to gain unnatural abilities.
- Slayer: Wield massive weapons to rush enemies and make them feel sorry for facing off against you as you obliterate them with your heavy blows.
- Champion: You can tank damage and summon fire down on your enemies.
Mage
Be a magic wielder and tap into the Fade to incinerate, freeze, electrocute, and crush your foes. You have access to long-range combat along with close-range as well. These are the Specializations you can expect:
- Death Caller: Drain life force from your enemies and cast dark spells upon them.
- Evoker: Stop every enemy in its tracks by summoning the deepest cold. Feel free to punish them afterward.
- Spellblade: Gain some spells to ensue lightning’s wrath in close-range combat.
Rogue
Be the force that nobody sees coming on the battlefield.Use quick movement and fast reflexes to your advantage by using a bow or dual swords. Following are the Specializations you will find as a Rogue:
- Duelist: Use Parry and Dodge with your swords against the enemy to gain a boost of strength with each strike you land.
- Saboteur: Place explosives and turrets to overwhelm your foes on the battlefield and feel free to finish them off later.
- Veil Ranger: Equip artifacts that allow your bow to snipe enemies from an unusual distance with ease.
Character Creator Also Allows You To Choose a Faction
Picking a faction is the part where you fit Rook properly into the world of Thedas. They get a background based on which faction they originally belonged to. How The Veilguard will play with this part of the character’s identity is yet to be seen, but it is safe to say that it won’t make a huge difference in the game’s ending. You will get to choose from the following six factions:
- Shadow Dragons: A resistance in Tevinter that fights off corrupt rulers and slavery in the area and brings justice to the locals. Neva Gallus is the companion in this faction.
- Grey Wardens: They need no introduction. A long-existing order that fought the Darkspawn and the Blight on multiple occasions to protect their kingdoms. Davrin will be a companion if you join the Grey Wardens.
- Antivan Crows: Become Antiva’s feared lethal protectors and use your weapons to defend the dark. Expect to run into Lucanis as a companion here.
- Lords of Fortune: Become an explorer and treasure hunter from Rivain by becoming a part of this faction. Taash will be the companion you get as part of this faction.
- The Mourn Watch: Become a part of a necromantic order in the Grand Necropolis of Nevarra. Emmrich will be there to guide you if you select The Mourn Watch for your protagonist.
- Veil Jumpers: Like exploring Elven ruins? Become a part of this faction to face some reality-warping magic where you also happen to meet Bellara and become companions with them.
