The new Arcane Archer Fighter has started a comparison between Arcane Arrows and Elemental Arrows in Baldur’s Gate 3.
An Arcane Archer can weave magic into their arrows and use Arcane Shots in Baldur’s Gate 3. This new ranged subclass gains the ability to use magic alongside their arrows.
There are various Arcane Arrows that a Fighter can learn and use. Naturally, these new types of arrows are being compared with the various elemental arrows in the game. While they are better than Elemental Arrows in certain situations, the same can be said for the latter.

Arcane Arrows vs Elemental Arrows: Basic Differences in Baldur’s Gate 3
Elemental Arrows can be obtained via vendors or looted from various other sources. However, you do not have to make any extra preparations for Arcane Arrows. Just having any normal arrow is fine, as you can enchant them with your magic to turn them into Arcane Arrows.
This creates a stark difference in the viability and availability between both arrows. Elemental Arrows will be rarer when compared to Arcane Arrows, which will refresh after a short or long rest.
Some situations might call for Elemental Arrows, however, others might have Arcane Arrows become better in certain situations.
Some Good Arcane Arrows To Use in Baldur’s Gate 3
Here are some of the better Arcane Shots to use in battle at first glance:
- Bursting Arrow: This shot makes your arrow explode on impact and deals 2d6 Force damage to all targets in a 3m/10ft area. This can be good for dealing decent AOE damage.
- Banishing Arrow: This arrow is used to Banish your target to the Feywild until the end of the next turn. This can give your party a breather to regroup and recuperate for a bit.
- Beguiling Arrow: This arrow deals 2d6 Psychic damage and also applies Charmed on them if they fail a saving throw.
- Piercing Arrow: Hits all targets in a straight line of your shot. If they fail the saving throw, they take extra 1d6 Piercing damage.
As you can see, Arcane Arrows can be quite useful in a lot of situations without any preparation. This is their main selling point. However, nothing stops you from using Elemental Arrows if the situation demands it. Therefore, ideally, you should be using both Arcane and Elemental Arrows as part of your arsenal.
