Gasbags are some of the most iconic creatures in Ark Survival Ascended, introduced with the Extinction update. They are pretty useful, despite looking like total floofballs.

You might think that they are only good to look at. But that can’t be far from the truth. These big floating friends are mainly useful as creatures who can tank damage from enemies. It can reduce 80% of the damage taken. This is not even the most useful feature of this creature.

A Gasbag can fly in and out of situations thanks to its body composition. This can be helpful when you are taking to the skies during a heated battle to save yourself or jumping in to raid some place or catch your enemies by surprise.

The big map might make it difficult for you to get to them.

These caterpillars are usually located in zones 0, 2, 4, and 5. So, you will find ample of these if you know where to look for them. Based on where you are looking for them, they might also differ a little in their outer-appearance.

Once you have found one that you like, it is time to start with the taming process. Follow the following steps:

  • Eradicate all other animals in the vicinity that might prove a threat to the docile animal. This is because they are easily scared and will run for their lives at the slightest inconvenience.
  • Put down a Large Bear Trap nearby.
  • Use light attacks like Punches to draw the Gasbag’s attention enough and not hurt it too much.
  • Lure it to the trap and once it’s caught, put down enough Dino Gates around it to ensure that the creature is enclosed.
  • Keep shooting with your Tranq Rifle until it is well dozed off.
  • Now, use Superior Kibbles to tame it. If you don’t have any, you can also use berries. It might take 7 Superior Kibbles but 100-150 berries. So, go in prepared.
  • It will take you around 2 hours and 15 minutes to tame it completely using berries. However, if you have the Kibbles that we are praising, the time will cut down to 22 and a half minutes.
