While Oda has not featured a lot of romantic relationships in One Piece, he has set up a lot of chemistry between its characters. These are universally adored by fans, who hope the pairings can actually move on to the next stage of their connection. Four One Piece ships everyone loves are:
1) Usopp and Kaya
Usopp and Kaya’s bond in One Piece is one of its sweetest aspects, with the live-action going as far as making them kiss. As a resident of Syrup Village, Usopp spent his days trying to bring a smile to the sick but kindhearted girl.
While knowing that Usopp’s stories were nothing but tall tales, Kaya enjoyed them nonetheless. Despite their short parting due to Kuro’s schemes, the pair eventually came together yet again due to the Straw Hats’ intervention.
Usopp inspired Kaya to pursue her medical studies so she could take care of his injuries. She was the one who gave the Going Merry to Luffy and his crew, which resulted in Usopp refusing to part with the vessel later in the series. The two characters are yet to meet up again, but fans are eagerly hoping for their romance to be fleshed out more in the series.
2) Sanji and Pudding
Usopp and Kaya’s relationship is the depiction of innocent love, while Sanji and Pudding’s bond takes on a much more twisted view. The pair had been forcefully united by Big Mom and the Vinsmokes during their political plans.
Pudding was initially dismissive of Sanji and had no proper feelings toward her partner. Sanji, being kind, won her over with his genuine compassion and admiration for her hidden beauty. This caused Pudding to let her guard down for the first time and even assist him in Whole Cake Island.
The two end up having a bittersweet departure as Pudding realized it wasn’t possible to stay with him and erased his memory after a kiss. Despite Sanji’s tragic situation, he was never unnecessarily harsh with Pudding and saw her real self. Due to this, Pudding eventually reformed and won over fans. Hence, Sanji might still be chasing after beautiful women in One Piece, but viewers are hoping for him to settle down with his former fiancee.
3) Ace and Yamato
Ace and Yamato’s time together was brief and only shown through a flashback, but it left a significant impact on fans. During Ace’s travels to Wano, he ends up fighting Kaido’s child, Yamato. The two soon discovered that they had more in common with each other than animosity, as Yamato also hated Kaido.
During a night of partying, they expressed their dreams of freedom and defiance. Yamato showed profound respect for Ace’s bond with Luffy and wished to sail out with him once Wano was freed. Unfortunately, when the Vivre card given to Ace disappeared, they realized that their friend had met an untimely passing.
Years later, Yamato still looks back on Ace fondly and mourns his loss. This shows how deeply the time they spent together affected them. While the ship cannot realistically come to fruition anymore, fans still enjoy this potential pair.
4) Vivi and Koza
As the pair who worked on two fronts to free Arabasta, Vivi, and Koza were childhood friends who initially had tensions between them but grew to be very close. Together, they formed the Sand-Sand Clan, a group of close friends who saved Vivi from kidnappers too.
Koza went on to become the leader of the Rebels who were against the royal family’s rule in Arabasta. To prevent both from working together, Baroque Works tried to keep them separated. However, by the end of the arc, they could meet and bring peace to their nation. With the foundations being laid years in the past and their shared ideals, everyone appreciates the closeness of their relationship.
4 One Piece Ships That Divide the Fandom
We have seen four ships that are loved by fans due to their roots being laid out in the One Piece storyline. However, there are many more questionable pairings that have little to no basis or evoke mixed reactions due to their inconsistency with the themes of One Piece. These include:
1) Kaido and Big Mom
Kaido and Charlotte Linlin, known as Big Mom, met for the first time in the Rocks Pirates and have been involved in each other’s lives ever since. They were fellow Emperors who boasted some of the most fearsome forces in One Piece.
The two were opposing personalities and held mutual disdain, clashing whenever they met. This led to their explosive battle in Wano. However, realizing their shared goal of world domination, they allied with each other and faced Luffy.
Both antagonists seem to care about their history together, showing moments of concern when the other is in danger. However, their explosive and evil nature makes some fans shudder at the thought of possible romantic development.
2) Luffy and Nami
There is a good portion of One Piece fans who would love to see Luffy get together with Nami. Both characters have been in the same crew for a long time and are fiercely loyal to each other. Luffy saved Nami from Arlong, and Nami learned the quality of faithfulness due to her time with Luffy.
This mutual trust has definitely laid a base for their bond to hit the next level. However, there is also a lot of outrage against this ship. Luffy’s character’s highlight is that he doesn’t have romantic feelings and does things solely out of the goodness of his heart. A possible love angle could taint this view of the protagonist.
Additionally, the reason their shared presence is so good is that their relationship is purely platonic. Bringing in complex feelings would hinder their honesty with each other. Despite the debates, this ship remains one of the most talked-about in the fandom.
3) Robin and Law
Both Robin and Law have not spent too much time together in One Piece, but some fans enjoy shipping the two together. The two have very similar personalities, being calculating, smart, and calm. They also have traumatic pasts that have left deep scars.
Additionally, Law is connected to the Will of D., which Robin herself wants to know more about. As both are connected to the search for the One Piece through Poneglyphs, they could spark up the screen with a relationship.
However, others oppose this with the simple fact that the ship has come out of nowhere. Apart from the fact that both are extremely attractive characters sharing similar traits, there has been no indication of anything deeper in their bond. These fans claim that Law’s reserved personality and Robin’s self-growth would be hindered if they had to come together.
4) Zoro and Hiyori
One of the most recent ships in One Piece comes from Zoro and Hiyori’s time spent together in the Wano Arc. Zoro saved Hiyori multiple times from Orochi’s assassins, after which the girl ended up growing attached to him.
Their interactions are always filled with humor and intrigue, leading to many memorable scenes. Hiyori finding solace and even embracing Zoro while the swordsman showed care for her made some assume that Luffy’s strongest warrior was finally finding love.
Naysayers believe that similar to Luffy, Zoro’s character is simply not prone to fall in love. He does not care about gender differences and has never been stumped by any woman in the series. While his bond with Hiyori was a highlight of the Wano Arc, it did not have any intimate meaning behind it.
