The release of Dragon Age The Veilguard is just a few weeks away, and fans are excited to step into Thedas after almost a decade-long hiatus. Many have also been hoping to bring their friends along for the ride through a co-op experience, something Dragon Age Inquisition offered. However, will Dragon Age The Veilguard have Co-Op Multiplayer?  Unfortunately, the co-op game mode will be absent in Dragon Age The Veilguard. The upcoming entry will be a single-player title entirely.

Dragon Age Inquisition Multiplayer Mode

A multiplayer mode was first introduced into the franchise in the first game, Dragon Age Inquisition, which released in 2014. Prior to this, the series had exclusively offered single-player experiences. The mode allowed four-player online co-op. Players teamed up and explored the dungeons together. 

The co-op multiplayer mode was separate from the main single-player campaign. It mainly focused on acquiring loot and dungeon-crawling. This allowed players to invite their friends regardless of their level in-game, which made the multiplayer system seamless.

The mode also incorporated different classes and characters. Each player would pick a class to play. Being able to mix and match classes and strategies only boosted the mode’s replayability.

Why Is Co-op Not Making a Return in Dragon Age The Veilguard?

The co-op mode will not make a return in Dragon Age The Veilguard, as confirmed by the developers in an interview with Game Informer. BioWare General Manager Gary McKay stated that they removed the mode to push the series “back to its roots” of being a single-player, story-first experience.

The team wanted players to feel that all their choices carried weight and be immersed in Dragon Age The Veilguard’s narrative. The multiplayer mode did not deliver in that regard. Cutting it out allowed them to invest all assets into enhancing the single-player experience for players. 

Dragon Age The Veilguard is an action RPG developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. The fourth major installment in the series, it is a direct sequel to Dragon Age Inquisition and will release on October 31, 2024.
