Chainsaw Man features a variety of fascinating characters displaying varied powers and personalities. Among them, Barem Bridge is one of the most memorable, originally introduced in Chainsaw Man Part 1 as a minor antagonist. He goes on to play a much larger role in the sequel, becoming one of its most hated characters. So, who is Barem Bridge in Chainsaw Man Part 2?

Barem Bridge is a Hybrid possessing the powers of the Flamethrower Devil and is a leading member of the Chainsaw Man Church. While his character was largely unknown during the first part, he has become infamous in the fandom. Here is a closer look at this character.

Barem Bridge was originally a Hybrid controlled by Makima, engaging in an intense battle against Chainsaw Man at the end of Part 1. He was overpowered at this point, ending up free after Denji defeated the Control Devil.

Despite not knowing much about his personality in Chainsaw Man Part 1, he is a figure of prominence in Chainsaw Man Part 2. Barem Bridge is a sadistic and cruel man who is willing to do anything for the sake of his goals.

He has no problem inflicting pain upon Denji, carrying on the will of Makima. Barem’s twisted sense of humor shows up when he smiles after suggesting killing the protagonist’s loved ones. At the same time, he reveres Makima and the original Chainsaw Man. He believes the former’s goal to be the righteous path while trusting the latter to be a crucial entity in saving the world.

His dangerous persona and nonchalance when committing atrocities have earned the ire of the entire fandom.

As a crucial member of the Chainsaw Man Church, Barem Bridge’s main ambition in Chainsaw Man Part 2 is to return Denji to his form as the “real” Chainsaw Man. He does this for the sake of preventing the Prophecy of Nostradamus, predicting the end of humanity at the hands of the Death Devil.

Unfortunately, Barem’s means of getting Denji to cooperate are far from orthodox. Barem believes that the key to making Chainsaw Man powerful is people’s fear and Denji’s own suffering. For its sake, he puts the protagonist through unimaginable pain.

This was hinted at right from the very beginning when he suggested killing Asa Mitaka. However, noticing that Asa wasn’t the dearest to Denji, Barem began targeting someone closer. He burned Denji and Nayuta’s home, killing their dogs and Meowy.

Following this, Barem showed no remorse. He manipulated an entire mob of people nearby to attack Denji and Nayuta. While the new Control Devil used her powers to get Denji to safety, she herself faced the threat of those in front of her.

The scene ended soon after this, with Barem’s next appearance being one of the most shocking moments in the manga.

Barem Bridge’s Strengths and Abilities

While Barem hasn’t fought directly several times in Chainsaw Man Part 2, he has shown very impressive powers. Being a Hybrid who can use the Flamethrower Devil’s powers, Barem has control over devastating flames. When turning to his devil form, he has a tank for his head and flamethrowers in his hands.

Barem’s raw power, defense, and senses are greatly enhanced during this point, while his ability can burn up entire buildings. Most importantly, Barem is immortal, save for the possibility of being eaten by Chainsaw Man.

As a Hybrid, when he dies, he does not reincarnate in a different form. This is unlike the case of Makima and Nayuta, both different versions of the Control Devil. Rather, similar to Quanxi, Barem will be restored to himself after death. This is the reason why he has had a recurring presence in the series. Another feature that greatly enhances Barem’s capability is his lack of morality.

He has no objective sense of right and wrong, simply believing his actions to be the correct ones. As a result, no matter how far he goes, he is easily able to justify it. This is what leads to his eventual fate in the series.

Barem Bridge’s Fate in Chainsaw Man Part 2

As we saw earlier, the chain of events created by Barem separated Nayuta from Denji. When Denji was searching for his missing sister, who was last seen being attacked by a mob, he ran into this Hybrid at a sushi restaurant.

Barem revealed he knew where Nayuta was, giving insight into his desire to use Chainsaw Man’s powers. After expressing how Denji’s unhappiness was key to his goals, he gave an order to the chef of the restaurant. The scene after this stunned everyone, as Nayuta’s head was sent down the belt along with the sushi.

This sent Denji into an incomprehensible rage, and he violently ripped Barem’s head from his body. He then lost his sense of self, allowing Pochita to become the true Chainsaw Man. Hence, Barem had momentarily achieved his goal, though Denji regained his composure later in Aging’s World.

While it was satisfying to see this antagonist be beheaded, he is unfortunately not permanently dead in Chainsaw Man Part 2. Being a Hybrid, he will regenerate and likely reappear later in the series.

Conclusion

Barem Bridge is an intriguing addition to the Chainsaw Man universe, embodying chaos and manipulation within the already tumultuous world of devils and devil-hunters. While he may not be the main antagonist of the series, his heinous actions have already made him a hated figure among fans. As the series moves forward, readers will be hoping to see the villain get his rightful conclusion.
