The five hunters who helped defeat the first S-Rank gate with the dragon Kamish are honored with the title of National Level Hunters. This places them higher in the hierarchy than S-Rank Hunters, giving them incomparable influence in society.

Thomas Andre is part of this elite group and is its most powerful member. This American hunter, called “The Goliath”, is an intimidating figure due to his enormous physique and overwhelming aura. As the Guild Master of the Scavenger Guild, Thomas is feared and respected by most hunters across the world.

Thomas has an aggressive and brutish personality where he emphasizes strength over all else. He is prideful and cares very much about his reputation and his guild. As a result, he doesn’t tolerate disrespect, no matter who it comes from.

However, should Thomas ascertain that another person is stronger than him, he treats them in a friendly manner. He is extremely aggressive during battles but graciously accepts the final result. Due to this, while his arrogance was initially disliked, the different layers that the story revealed soon made viewers warm up to him.

Thomas Andre’s Strengths and Abilities

As seen earlier, Thomas Andre is the highest-ranked hunter in the world and humanity’s trump card before Jinwoo’s introduction. Thomas’ role is that of a Tanker, where physicality and durability are the core of his strength.

Additionally, he has years of experience and can hold his own during hand-to-hand combat, displaying masterful speed and reflexes. His main skill, however, is related to his ability to draw the Rulers’ powers.

Having been chosen as a vessel of these celestial entities, Thomas can use the Ruler’s Authority and Spiritual Body Manifestation. When activating his main form, Reinforcement, he wears a golden armor that drastically enhances his defense and battle capability. This allowed him to go toe-to-toe against Jinwoo for a while and even survive a battle with a Monarch.

Reinforcement also gives Thomas potent telekinetic abilities that work similarly to a black hole. This was so powerful that it could pull the gigantic Kamish.

Thomas Andre’s Role in Solo Leveling

Thomas Andre was originally introduced in Solo Leveling to display the furthest heights that humans could reach with their powers. He showed a fascination with Jinwoo following the Jeju Island Raid, but couldn’t meet the hunter.

However, Thomas realized the potential sour relations they could form since Hwang Dongsoo, who was out looking for vengeance against the protagonist, was part of the Scavenger Guild. Despite Thomas warning Dongsoo to not interfere with Jinwoo, the latter didn’t comply.

During the International Guild Conference Arc, Jinwoo was set to represent Korea on the world stage, attending a conference in America. Dongsoo took advantage of this event to attack Yoo Jinho, torturing him to indirectly affect Jinwoo.

The protagonist got wind of this and tracked Dongsoo, beating him brutally in a rage. Right before he finished the job, Thomas Andre interfered, asking Jinwoo to let his guild member go. However, Jinwoo unsurprisingly refused. This left Thomas with no choice but to fight Jinwoo, resulting in an electrifying battle.

Thomas’ Reinforcement and physical superiority initially damaged Jinwoo, but the protagonist had grown too far with his powers as the Shadow Monarch. He broke through Thomas’ armor and decisively beat him down till the American hunter admitted defeat.

While Jinwoo killed Dongsoo after this and turned him into a shadow soldier, Thomas gained immense respect for him. The protagonist had displayed his superiority against a National Level Hunter but did not kill him since he had no personal enmity. Thomas then actively began supporting Jinwoo in his quest to face the Monarchs, giving him powerful daggers called Kamish’s Wrath.

Since Thomas Andre had gotten friendly with Jinwoo through their fight, he came to Korea to gift him his new weapon and spend time with him. At this point, the Monarch invasion began, with a large gate being created. Given Thomas’ new positive relationship with Jinwoo, he decided to help protect the country.

Unfortunately, Thomas soon realized he was outmatched when he was faced with Rakan, the Monarch of Fangs. Despite valiantly fighting and putting his body on the line, his opponent’s celestial powers and raw strength far surpassed his. Thankfully, right before dying, Thomas was rescued by the German hunter Lennart. Following this, Jinwoo appeared to fight Rakan and killed him.

Despite his injuries, Thomas did not retreat, healing himself and preparing for the final battle versus the remaining Monarchs. When Antares began his attack, Thomas ran into Tarnak, the Monarch of the Iron Body. While he was underestimated for his loss against Rakan, the American hunter had back-up this time.

He revealed how Jinwoo’s shadows had been hiding in his own shadow, summoning Bellion, Beru, and several more. Together, they engaged in battle and ultimately beat Tarnak. Soon after, Jinwoo defeated Antares and reset the timeline.

In his new life, Thomas continues living in the same manner, sharing a close relationship with the fortune-teller, Norma Selner. He is also an ally of Jinwoo’s son, Suho, in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.

Conclusion

Thomas Andre is one of the most formidable and influential hunters in Solo Leveling. As a National Level Hunter, his strength, durability, and combat prowess set him apart from most other characters in the series.

While he was initially an overconfident and dominant figure, his defeat and eventual friendship with Jinwoo made him much more likable. Hence, anime fans have much to look forward to as this hunter will be introduced in the coming seasons of the Solo Leveling anime.
