What is Fey Ancestry?

Fey Ancestry is a unique ability, and the Feywind is an effect it provides. Your characters with the Feywind effect receive a veil over their mind. As a result, whenever an opponent tries to cast a spell that charms a character with this ability, you’ll get an advantage on saving throws and bigger chances to resist. Additionally, Fey Ancestry prevents from being put to sleep by potions, scrolls and spells.

Charmed is a status effect and a spell that can be cast on NPC or a player character. A Charmed creature can’t harm the charmer, and the charmer has an advantage on Charisma checks against the creature. The Charm Person is a level 1 Enchantment school Spell in Baldur’s Gate 3 that Magically Charm a humanoid to gain Advantage on Ability Checks in dialogue and prevent it from attacking. The charm spell lasts for 10 turns.

The Sleep is a level 1 Enchantment school Spell in Baldur’s Gate 3 and a status effect that puts a creature into a magical slumber for 2 turns. They awake if they take damage. The same effect can be achieved by Potion of Sleep and Scroll of Sleep

Is Fay Ancestry useful in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Fay Ancestry is a practical effect that will give your character more chances to resist status effects. However, it’s not required or powerful enough to choose it over different unique abilities. So don’t feel like you must choose every time it to be powerful. While some classes are sometimes more powerful than others. Races and their bonuses don’t have that big of an impact. Consider matching your race to your class for the best results.
