Despite a hotfix released by Larian Studios earlier this week, Baldur’s Gate 3 Missing Xbox Save Files are still an issue.
There was much anticipation for BG3 following a wildly successful launch on PC/Mac and Playstation 5 earlier this year, as Xbox players waited their turn. Finally, as a surprise announcement at this years Game Awards developers Larian Studios that the game was officially launching on the Microsoft console. Players have reported some issues as they adventure in Faerun, however, and Larian is working feverishly to find a fix.
Missing Xbox Save Files Still An Issue
Despite the release of a hotfix earlier this week intended to fix the problem, unfortunately there are reports that Xbox players are still experiencing the loss of save game files. Xbox Support also followed up with an advisement of their own, cautioning players from trying to address the issue by simply pulling the plug on their console.
The official Larian Studios Support page addressing this issue gives step by step instructions for making sure that player’s consoles are fully up-to-date. There are actually two separate downloads which players will want to make sure they have installed. One is for the game itself, while another is an Xbox system update.
The instructions from Larian include how to manually update your console:
- Connect the console to the internet and then press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Select Profile & Systems>Settings>System>Updates
- Under Updates you will see one of two selections:
- Console update available. Select this to begin your update.
- No console update available. This means your console is up to date.
Previous Missing Xbox Save Files Hotfix from Larian Studios
Earlier this week, on December 11th, Larian released a hotfix which was intended to fix an issue where players were loosing their save files. The developers are clearly working in concert with Xbox support at Microsoft to address this issue both from the game side and possibly the console side. While this is definitely a disappointing development for players who have been patiently waiting since August for BG3 to come to their platform, Larian Studios has a proven track record of addressing problems and tackling bugs.
