Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 4 Highlights

Baldur’s Gate 3 has recently released Patch 4, featuring an extensive collection of over a thousand fixes, tweaks, and changes, marking it as one of the game’s most substantial updates.

Accessibility Improvements

One of the standout features in Patch 4 is the introduction a color-blind mode. Now, players can choose between protanopia, deuteranopia, or tritanopia in the Accessibility tab. This mode impacts character outlines and circles, character map markers, frame portraits in turn order, and party portraits. It’s a thoughtful addition that aims to help players distinguish between friends and foes, enhancing the overall gaming experience.

Gameplay Enhancements – Hireling Visual Customizations

Patch 4 brings several gameplay improvements that make your adventures in Faerûn more enjoyable. Now, you can dismiss dead avatars to Withers’ Wardrobe. Also, Withers can now explain how this feature works, ensuring you can make the most of it.

A fun addition is the ability to customize hirelings’ appearances when recruiting them, eliminating any need for “Extreme Makeover: Faerûn Edition.”

Additionally, a significant change to the mechanics of the “Speak with Dead” spell now allows you to cast it again if you didn’t ask any questions the first time. This tweak fixes the issue of being unable to speak with the dead if you accidentally left and provides more flexibility in your interactions with the dearly departed.

A lighthearted touch comes in the option to choose how you’d like statues from Boney in the circus to look like, fully equipped, in camp clothes, or in their birthday suit.

For those who have been on a quest to retrieve Scratch’s lost ball, Patch 4 ensures it’s not as easily misplaced. And even if you do lose it, a trip to camp might result in a pleasant surprise.

Furthermore, Patch 4 introduces a controller option for those who prefer a hold instead of a tap to end their turn during combat, adding flexibility to the gameplay.

Combat and Quest Changes

The update includes various combat tweaks, enhancing the overall gaming experience. One is related to the most powerful legendary sword in the game. They buffed the Baldurian Giantslayer attack!

Previously, the “Topple the Big Folk” action could only be used against specific large-sized creatures. However, after the update, players can now use this action against creatures of any size. This expanded flexibility allows for more strategic options during gameplay.

Despite this change, there are distinctions regarding the effects of “Topple the Big Folk.” While players can now use the ‘Topple the Big Folk’ action against creatures of any size, they will only inflict additional damage and apply the Prone condition (causing the creature to fall and become vulnerable) to those classified as Large, Huge, or Gargantuan.

Quests

Alongside numerous quest fixes in Patch 4, you’ll find additional dialogue options for Minsc about Dark Urge. These changes offer deeper immersion and make the storytelling even more engaging. Especially for players who remember Minsc from the previous Baldur’s Hate titles.

Cazador, Astarion’s former master, has received 29 adjustments and fixes in Patch 4, improving the character’s experience and interactions within the game. However, Larian Studios also removed some of the previous “cheese tactics” players could perform to defeat him. He has regained the ability to turn into mist and fly, ensuring he won’t meet an unfortunate end by falling into a chasm. And an issue where players could shoot through magically protected doors in Cazador’s Dungeon has been fixed.

Also, visual enhancements have been made to his skin texture, and Cazador now has Legendary Resistance in Tactician Mode. However, this feature is not present in Explorer or Balanced mode. Players can now loot Cazador’s staff, the Woe, if they defeat him after he ascends. Acquiring this valuable item was impossible before in certain quest solutions. Lastly, the Gur group will provide support in the endgame if their questline is resolved peacefully in Cazador’s lair.

Animation and UI Improvements

Several characters receive new idle animations and behaviors in camp, adding to their depth and making your interactions feel more authentic. The developers have also polished the User Interface (UI) in Patch 4. Now, you can customize which solution is selected in the second slot of the Alchemy panel. Players will notice added map markers, indicating when characters wish to engage in conversation, and unique map icons representing the Magic Mirror and Withers’ Wardrobe. Additionally, the Skills section in the Character Sheet has received various enhancements, including icons for individual skills and improved skill tooltips.

Under the Hood

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 4 addresses over a thousand minor fixes, including performance and crash issues. These changes are aimed at providing a smoother and more stable gameplay experience. Controller-related issues have also been resolved.

In summary, Patch 4 is a substantial update introducing various accessibility options, gameplay improvements, and visual enhancements. With over a thousand fixes under the hood, it’s a step towards making Baldur’s Gate 3 an even more enjoyable and immersive gaming experience for players. Those were only highlights of the long list of fixes and changes in Baldur’s Gate 3, Patch 4. You can read the complete developers’ update on the official Larian Studio website.

As always, the developers urge players to contact their support team if they encounter any issues. Happy adventuring in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3!
