Best New Game+ Build Guide

New Game+ in Black Myth: Wukong is fairly similar to games like Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Lies of P, and similar souls-like action RPGs. The basic premise of New Game+ is that players get to keep all their unlocks, weapon upgrades, talents, Spells, and even Vessels, as they head into a fresh playthrough on the same save file. However, to balance the experience and prevent players from basically steamrolling through the content with their end-game builds, there are certain changes in NG+. The first and probably the most noticeable change in Black Myth: Wukong’s New Game+ cycles is the general increase in difficulty. Enemies and also bosses, gain an attack power and defensive buff in New Game+.

Furthermore, the buff increases exponentially with each new New Game+ cycle. Apart from the increased difficulty of enemy encounters, the first New Game+ cycle comes with a few exclusive unlocks. The first of these NG+ exclusives are three new Staffs, each geared towards a specific playstyle. Additionally, there’s also an NG+-specific Spell and Relic in the game. The Spell is called Life-Saving Strand, and the Relic is called Freed Mind. There are also a couple of NG+ exclusive Healing Gourds that can be purchased from the Shen Monkey.

As for the best New Game+ build, the primary focus is on DPS. Fortunately, going through NG+ already gives you all the tools that you need to craft this build. The main components of the best New Game+ build are – Dark Iron Staff, Bull King’s set, and Supreme Gourd. As for Spells, Immobilize, Cloud Step, and A Pluck of Many are the primary options for this build. Alternative options are Rock Solid and Spell Binder (situational). Here’s a look at the pros and cons for the New Game+ build in Black Myth: Wukong:

Best Spells

The best Spells for the New Game+ build are Immobilize, Cloud Step, and A Pluck of Many. You can switch Immobilize with Spell Binder. However, Spell Binder is best used against boss fights, to buff the Destined One’s base attack power. Spells in this build are primarily geared toward two major aspects of combat – repositioning or initiating a charged-heavy attack combo. Immobilize is going to be the starter Spell in this build, something you’d want to max out to enhance its effect and duration. Furthermore, you’d also want to max out A Pluck of Many. Upgrading the Spell increases the amount of clones you can summon, and also their base HP.

A Pluck of Many is essentially the most important element of this build, apart from the weapon and armor. With the Freed Mind Relic’s Unified Mind skill unlocked, A Pluck of Many essentially becomes your main damage dealer. Unified Mind allows the summoned duplicates to perform special attacks (charged-heavy and combo finishers) alongside the Destined One. Pair this up with the increased damage of the Dark Iron Staff and you will be able to deal more than 10K damage in a single hit, with A Pluck of Many.

Immobilize

Immobilize Spell - Black Myth Wukong
  • Description: A control spell that, with just a gesture of the finger, can bind the enemy in place. More powerful foes may break free sooner, thus caution is advised. To ensure this spell will not be interrupted during intense combat, cast it when the opponent is exhausted, staggered, or downed.
  • Spell Tree: Mysticism
  • Mana Cost: 80
  • Cooldown: 50 seconds

Immobilize is your starting Spell for most combat encounters. Not only does it allow you to get a few free hits on the enemy at the start of the battle, but it also gives you enough time to buff your attacks and defenses via Medicines or Spirits. Furthermore, Immobilize comes in incredibly handy when you need to reposition the Destined One on the battlefield, but can’t get an opening to do so. You can replace Immobilize with Spell Binder, but do so only for boss fights, or elite enemy encounters.

Cloud Step

Cloud Step Spell - Black Myth Wukong
  • Description: A mobility spell that leaves behind a decoy while allowing for quick dispersion into mist and escape. Useful for evading attacks or luring enemies into a trap. Upon returning from the mist state, an Unveiling Strike can be unleashed to catch opponents off guard.
  • Spell Tree: Alteration
  • Mana Cost: 30
  • Cooldown: 35 seconds

Much like Immobilize, Cloud Step is a Spell that’s geared toward defensive options. However, with a few upgrades the Coud Step can also be used offensively, thanks to the Unveiling Strike ability. Cloud Step is mostly meant as a “get-out-of-jail-for-free” card during combat. Using the Spell gives you a few seconds to either heal, buff, or cast another Spell. Furthermore, Cloud Step can be used in the Stone Monkey form as well.

A Pluck of Many

A Pluck of Many Spell - Black Myth Wukong
  • Description: A duplication spell: pluck a strand, chew it, and spit it into the air to create multiple Duplicates. These agile Duplicates can fight or flee and will engage the enemy if the caster is attacked. This spell can be used to catch a breath or escape. However, the Duplicates are fragile and can be quickly destroyed if directly confronted by the enemy.
  • Spell Tree: Strand
  • Mana Cost: 120
  • Cooldown: 120 seconds

A Pluck of Many is the backbone of this build. While the base damage of the New Game+ build is quite high, it’s easily outclassed by some of the late-game encounters, especially in New Game+2 and beyond. However, with A Pluck of Many and the Unified Mind Relic skill, this build’s damage output increases drastically, allowing the Destined One to technically one-shot some of the mid-game bosses. Alternative to A Pluck of Many is the Life-Saving Strand Spell. However, it’s not worth using the Life-Saving Strand as a Spell. You can essentially use the Soul Remigration Pill instead of Life-Saving Strand, since both of them serve the same purpose, but the former is a Medicine, and doesn’t occupy a Spell slot.

Azure Dome (Transformation)

Azure Dome Transformation Spell in Black Myth: Wukong.
Azure Dome Transformation Spell in Black Myth: Wukong

For Transformation Spell, the best option is Azure Dome, i.e., the Stone Monkey. Not only is Azure Dome the “tankiest” Transformation in Black Myth: Wukong, but it also has the ability to use Spells. In the Stone Monkey form, you can use Spells like Cloud Step, Rock Solid, and A Pluck of Many. Furthermore, the Stone Monkey is also completely resistant to all Four Banes effects, making it incredibly effective against some of the end-game bosses. Lastly, the Azure Dome Transformation also deals Frost and Burn (Fire) damage, albeit with an active Focus charge.

Weapon and armor set for the New Game+ build

The Dark Iron Staff (Image via GameScience)

For the weapon, it was a toss-up between the Stormflash Loong Staff and the Dark Iron Staff. However, for this particular build, we went with the latter. The primary reason for choosing Dark Iron Staff is its ability to scale damage with Defense. The more Defense you have the higher will be the base damage of the Dark Iron Staff. To capitalize on the Defense focus, the armor of choice for this build is Bull King’s set. Side note – the full Bull King’s set can only be crafted in New Game+. The Bull King’s set grants a significant amount of Tenacity to the Destined One, i.e., hyperarmor. With the Bull King’s set equipped you are basically invulnerable to stagger.

Furthermore, the armor set increases Defense massively when health drops to critical. However, the Bull King’s set does have a downside. The Bull King’s set disables Perfect Dodging.

Curios

The White Seashell Waist Chain (Image via GameScience)

The best Curios for the New Game+ build are as follows:

  • White Seashell Waist Chain: Moderately increases attack power (Obtained as a random item drop from the Bull Stalwart enemies, in Chapter 5 (The Flaming Mountains))
  • Agate Jar: Moderately increases Defense (Obtained from the treasure chest in the Black Wind King’s boss arena, in Chapter 1 (Black Wind Mountain))

Spirit

The Wandering Wight (Image via GameScience)

The best Spirit for the New Game+ build is the Wandering Wight. The Wandering Wight Spirit offers a massive boost to Defense, and hence the overall attack power with the Dark Iron Staff equipped. Furthermore, the Wandering Wight also deals massive amounts of damage when activated. Additionally, the Wandering Wight can be unlocked fairly early and easily in Black Myth: Wukong. You simply need to defeat the Wandering Wight in the opening area of Chapter 1 (Black Wind Mountain) to obtain its Spirit.

Relic

The Freed Mind Relic (Image via GameScience)

Below are the Relics and the best primary skills for the New Game+ build:

  1. Craving Eyes – Opportune Watcher (Increases Focus gained by attacks and dodges)
  2. Fuming Ears – Whistling Wing (Increases attack power after a Perfect Dodge)
  3. Hubris Nose – Hold Breath (Increases dodge invulnerability, makes Perfect Dodges easier)
  4. Envious Tongue – Spread the Word (Casting Immbobilize affects all enemies surrounding the target)
  5. Grieved Body – Divine Safeguard (Increases Four Banes resistance)
  6. Freed Mind – Unified Mind (Allows duplicates to perform special attacks)

Gear

StaffDark Iron StaffIncreases base attack power based on Defense.
VesselPlantain FanIncreases Stamina Recovery Rate.
Summons a tornado that depletes the enemy’s Qi and staggers them.
ArmorBull King’s setIncreased Tenacity and Defense.

Below is a list of the best Staff, armor, and Vessel for the New Game+ build:

  • Staff: Dark Iron Staff – Increases base attack power based on Defense (Available to craft in New Game+)
  • Vessel: Plantain Fan – Increase Stamina Recovery speed and depletes enemy’s Qi (Obtained upon completing Chapter 5)
  • Armor set: Bull King’s set – Increases Tenacity and Defense (Available to craft after defeating the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast (Chapter 5)).

Gourd

The Supreme Gourd (Image via GameScience)

For the Healing Gourd, the best choice for New Game+ is the Supreme Gourd. To obtain the Supreme Gourd, you first need to get all the upgrades for the Healing Gourd (the one you start the game with). After upgrading the Healing Gourd to its maximum limit (via Louija Fragrant Vines), you will get the final upgrade from the Old Man NPC. Meet the Old Man NPC in Chapter 5 (The Flaming Mountains) near the Palace Entrance to get the Supreme Gourd upgrade. The Supreme Gourd offers 10 healing changes, which is more than enough to compensate for any damage that you might take due to the lack of Perfect Dodge in this build.
