This class includes high bursts of damage, spreading afflictions such as necrotic damage and even providing tactical control over the battlefield via traps or auto turrets. Each of these classes has its extensive Skill Tree containing various Passive skills, Trait upgrades, and Specializations. Let’s dive through the Skill Tree of Rogue class to find out the best Rogue skills that you can use on the battlefield.
What are the best Rogue Skills in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The Rogue class has changed quite a bit from the Dragon Age Inquisition. On one side, they are much more mobile than ever, quickly dashing between enemies and performing dodges and parries, which are now part of their default move set. Their weapon of choice includes a dual-wield main and offhand weapon and a bow you can freely alternate to via right-click in combat.
Performing light attacks with either of these will generate momentum. Rogues don’t feature a secondary weapon set instead the class freely switches between the melee and ranged options as well as featuring a much more extensive list of combos. Most of which you get to additionally unlock from the skill tree, so skills such as Old Shadow Step, Spinning Blades, Twin Fangs, or even the Parry no longer need to occupy a slot on the skill bar.
Rogue Specialization
Rogue perks feature a wide selection of Burst, Sustain as well as Control skills. On the outskirts of the skill hexagon, we have the three main specializations that open up once you hit level 20. This includes the Dualist, which focuses a lot on the two blades for rapid and devastating damage incorporating the adrenaline mechanic with a bug emphasis on perfect dodges and perfect parries.
Saboteur is another specialization in Rogue Class that uses a lot of traps, auto turrets, and tricks to control the battlefield offering a more tactical approach to combat. Vail Ranger is also a specialization in the Rogue class that is a purely ranged style option of combat that lets you hit multiple targets from afar with your bows. It contains interesting abilities that spread a lot of electric and shock damage.
Below is the list of all Rogue skills that are available in their burst, control, Veil Jumper, Antvan Crow, and specialization skills.
Affliction Unique Mechanic
Besides bleeding, Rogue can also apply necrosis to the target and many passive perks let you gain necrotic blade buff from performing different actions. When performing takedowns, you can gain buff via Victory Rush when damaging weak points via Poisonous Precision, or when performing perfect parries via Poisoned Reply. Once you perform that you’re going to have the buff on the weapon so that you can spread that even more to the target. There are a lot more ways to convert bleed stacks to necrosis to gain even more benefits such as via Blood Poisoning.

It also detonates the overwhelmed effect and applies bleeding. Taash’s Spitfire can apply the Overwhelm status effect on the enemy, which can pair with the Pilfer. Utilize this combo to apply Overwhelm through Spitfire and then use Pilfer to detonate the Overwhelm effect. Once this combo is finished, you can use the Lightning Flask to deal additional damage. Lightning Flask is a duration control ability that throws down a flask of bottled lightning dealing electric damage in an AOE around you and applying the shocked status to enemies.
This combo can dominate any enemy coming in their path. The concussive Barrage is an absolutely AOE ability that lets you smash a flask of lightning that explodes at your feet unleashing a shock wave of electricity that continues to trigger a few more times every couple of seconds. This one is great at applying the shock debuff on all targets which is a great way to just reduce their overall resistance to fire, ice, and electricity. This combo benefits from passives that affect such abilities as Shattering Control.
2) Storm’s Path
Storm’s Path is an area projectile type ability that fires a powerful blast from your bow dealing electric damage in a line and detonating Overwhelmed. It’s also a detonator, so you can detonate any primer that’s on the targets. You can even make it stronger via Compound Bow. This is an upgrade projectile ability that makes a lot of your bow damage and projectile abilities a lot higher. It basically adds Bow’s base damage to all Projectile Ability damage.
You can use the Regroup Rune to enhance the power of this combo. It increases combat abilities with fire-based damage. Regroup allows you to use your companions’ attacks in quick succession. Use them, activate them, and then use them again. This allows you to either heal or produce multiple combos and detonations quickly. The Companion that works well with the Regroup is Emmrich because it lets you stagger, slow time, and apply weakened while detonating sundered along with the fire damage.
3) Reeling Bolt
Reeling Bolt is A projectile tool type ability that has a 60-second cooldown instead of spending momentum. Putting a cooldown-based ability with a resource-spending one means you will have something to cast when you run out of momentum. It deals electric damage and applies the weakened effect by firing out a special arrow. Deal Stagger and apply a shock to the primary target.
To make this more effective, you can pair the Reeling Bolt with the Davrin’s Death from Above ability. This ability can detonate the Weakened effect and has a base cooldown of 48 seconds. Add an Electrify Rune in this combo to enhance the Electricity damage and Davrin (Companion) for inflicting various status effects on enemies.
4) Explosive Daggers
A projectile duration type ability that costs one momentum pip and applies Sundered by unleashing a barrage of three explosive daggers that stick to the target and then explode for (550) physical damage. This is the best ability to utilize when fighting in close combat when equipped with the best gear.
Pair it with the Pilfer that deals damage to the target, steals a potion from it in the process, and then immediately consumes it as well as applying a guaranteed bleed effect on the enemy. This can be quite useful since you’re limited to the number of Potions you have, so essentially it means even more survivability in combat.
It’s also a combo detonator which makes it a great way to set up synergies. This combo can deal additional damage and can drain the enemy’s health bar in no time. Add Crystallize Rune in this combo to freeze enemies within a range extending freeze duration. Freeze the enemy and then use Explosive Dagger and Pilfer to kill that beast in a short time.
5) Hurricane of Blades
This ability led to spinning around rapidly and hitting targets for Necrotic damage four times with the final strike dealing more damage. You can pair it with the Opportunity Shocks for a stronger effect. This ability deals up to 75 additional Electric damage when your Momentum is above 66%. You gain a stronger effect if you’re closer to a Perfect Shot.
To make this combo even stronger, you can use the Pierce Rune for extra penetration. Armor and weaponry are enhanced with penetration boosts upon activation and allow the players to break enemy defenses through a tactical advantage. Use this Rune to break the enemy defenses and then utilize the Hurricane of Blade along with the Opportunity Shocks for additional Necrotic damage and Electric damage.
You can also enhance the effectiveness of this combo by choosing the Davrin. Davrin is the best companion to pair with as it keeps the enemies taunted and stunned. Davrin’s In War, Victory is best in this case as Davrin gains an invulnerability state for a short period of time preventing him from taking any incoming damage. Use this combo to break the enemy defense without taking any damage.
6) Toxic Dash
Toxic Dash is a slashing attack that deals necrotic damage and applies Sundered to weaken the target’s defense. Before using any combos or any major ability, use Toxic Dash on your enemies to make your other attacks effective. It dashes towards your target and applies the Necrosis status to the target. Pair the Toxic Dash with the A Thousand Cuts Ability to enhance the effectiveness of Toxic Dash. A Thousand Cuts is a control ability where you strike while stepping forward up to 16 times per high Necrotic damage with the final strike dealing more damage.
You can make this combo stronger than ever by using the correct rune that provides additional unique benefits. Use the Escalate Rune to enhance your next ability by boosting either its effectiveness or damage. This is particularly useful against certain enemy types and you use it multiple times in combat. Combine it with the Toxic Dash and A Thousand Cuts to become a winner on the battlefield.
Utilize Neve to apply the Weakened effect on a target with her Glacial Pace ability, then use the Toxic Dash ability to apply the Sundered effect. On the impact of your ability, it will do more damage to the target and have a chance of landing necrotic damage due to enhanced ability damage.
7) Fortune’s Turret
This ability creates a turret that targets the nearest enemy with projectiles. It will then explode and disrupt enemies by dealing heavy damage within the range of the blast. When the ammo runs out, it explodes.
Use the Crush to enhance the power of this combo. The Crush Rune allows unpenalized attacks on armored enemies and enhances damage against Armor for a short time. This Rune works well with the Fortune’s Turret because it allows you to ace down a mechanized turret that targets the closest enemy and stuns them with projectiles for physical damage.
Emmrich is the best Companion to use while equipping Crush Rune as this companion fills the role of range DPS with a powerful healing ability called Replenish. You can snare, stagger, slow time, and apply weakened while detonating sundered as revolves around dealing damage to enemies from a distance.
8) Rain of Decay
Rain of Decay is an area control ability that reigns Necrotic arrows down on an area, dealing each second they remain in the effect and cost one momentum pip. Damage is inflicted each second to all enemies caught in the area. It also deals an additional 15% ability damage.
Neve’s Blizzard can summon a swirling vortex of ice to pin down the enemies and it deals 73 cold damage per second to all the enemies in the AOE, which can combo with the Rain to Decay to dominate any enemy in a combat.
9) Lightning Quiver
A Projectile ability that costs one momentum. It unleashes a storm of seven electric bolts that spread across the battlefield. Randomly hitting enemies in a large area for electric damage. Pair it with the Evasion Maneuver to launch a strong attack from an Extended Dodge or when recovering from being Knocked Down. Use this trait for a counterattack after a long dodge.
Use the Ravage Rune with this combo to defeat any kind of enemy in the path. Ravage enhances the damage against enemy health, making it the best one to take down enemies in no time. The best way to use the Ravage rune is to combine it with an Evasion Maneuver first to launch a strong attack and then use Lightning Quiver for seven electric bolts to deal additional electric damage. Harding is the perfect Companion that works perfectly because this pair can apply Sundered with her Shred ability and Potion’s additional effects are applied.
10) Static Strike
This is an ability that unleashes twin bolts of electricity that travel in a straight path shocking enemies on the way but also priming them for detonation. If anybody in your party including yourself or your have a detonator then you can detonate for additional damage. It’s a strike and duration ability, meaning that any passive perk that buffs strike or duration abilities will also benefit the static strike.
You will have an easier time going through enemy defenses, and destroying shields and armor if you just buff those. You can pair it with the Pilfer for the physical damage as well. It can slice an enemy and then steal a potion from them healing yourself in the process. It also detonates the overwhelmed effect and applies bleeding.
