ESO One Bar PvP Magicka Templar Build
The ESO One Bar PvP Magicka Templar Build is ideal for players looking for maximum survivability with high burst potential. Now the way ESO scales abilities and procs with spell damage, you have great survivability and burst. We also included flexible gear options for those with or without Oakensoul Ring mythic.

Last Updated March 24th, 2023 for ESO Update 37, Scribes of Fate. The Templar has seen massive changes, particularly to the melee-aggressive playstyle. Now the Templar excels at ranged and using beam as their best skill. So expect the bar, skills, and gear to look radically different for a reason. Jabs/Sweeps is no longer that effective. I changed the skills/gear to be ultra tanky and have high burst damage with the range using staff.
This build’s most important aspect is playing it with the Oakensoul Ring mythic. Your build will look similar in gear choices to the stamina version. However, keep in mind that since the changes to the Mythic and Empowered Buff, One Bar PvP builds have become much weaker.
The Best PvP One Bar Magicka Templar – Heavy Attack build for Templar
In ESO, the One Bar Magicka Templar Build is perfect for everyone, and literally. Great for beginners, veterans, players of any age and experience. It’s easy to understand and doesn’t require bar swapping – the game element that simplifies the gameplay without hurting the potential damage per second. If a heavy attack builds playstyle and following “pros” is what you are looking for, this build is for you!
Pros | Cons |
Insane self healing | Sacrifices some offensive potential for survivability |
Very simple offensive loadout | Gear can be difficult to obtain |
Great against gankers/stealth play |
Skills
Front Bar Lightning Staff
Front Bar Weapon Options
- Lightning Staff: provides easy fully charged heavy attacks for resource sustain and AoE damage when channeling.
- Fire Staff: most single target damage and pairs well with elemental users.
- Dual Wield: highest DPS but without a second bar can be brutal to sustain.
Toppling Charge (Morph of Focused Charge | Skill line: Aedric Spear) - A hard hitting gap closer that procs off balance. Off balance is useful for sustain as you can rip off a fully charged heavy attack for 2x the resource sustain. The trick with this ability is to setup the combo and stun the opponent just before Purify Light explodes.
Purifying Light (Morph of Backlash | Skill line: Dawns Wrath) - burst damage, procs minor spell damage bonus and heals at base of target. This is your killing tool as it soaks up damage like a balloon. After 6 seconds, a percentage of the amount of damage you've done is released for huge burst. The trick to killing players is to fill up the damage, stun and sweeps right as it explodes. This also scales in effectiveness from spell damage.
Elemental Drain (Morph of Weakness to Elements | Skill line: Destruction Staff) - Applies Marjor Breech to enemies, reducing their physical and spell resistance, while at the same time casting Minor Magickasteal which restores magicka to you and your allies.
Biting Jabs (Morph of Puncturing Strikes | Skill line: Aedric Spear) - This is the stamina morph which deals more damage but be aware of your stamina pool. You can flex this out for ranged spammable like dark flare, crushing shock or blazing spear. Also the other morph sweeps will do more healing but very weak in damage.
Honor The Dead (Morph of Rushed Ceremony | Skill line: Restoring Light) - Great burst heal that gives a bit of sustain back. The trick is to not relay on this ability unless you are very low. You’ll want heals from your rune, bubble, and ritual to do the majority of the work as this gets costly especially in no CP situations.
Dawnbreaker Of Smiting (Morph of Dawnbreaker | Skill line: Fighters Guild) - I've moved to a more bursty ultimate setup and swapped out Crescent for DB. This has great passives and the AoE stun is very hard to pass up and I like the burst and DoT pressure vs low cost Crescent Sweep.
