Can You Remove Helmets and Armor in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Your gear’s look can alter the change of a cutscene, exploration, or battle. Check whether you can remove a helmet or armor in DAV.

Removing helmets and armor in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a feature that fans have been desperately looking for. Much to their surprise, nobody has been able to find it yet because it is a little more complicated than you would expect.

Clearly, you cannot ‘remove’ either your helmet or the armor you are wearing. We don’t have much idea on why BioWare would strip this choice of players. However, they didn’t completely render this option out of fashion.

There is a way for players to remove helmets and armor, but only by the looks of it. No. You don’t have to install a mod for this one. Simply head to the character screen in the player menu. Now, you will see an ‘eye’ icon next to your helmet and armor. Pressing this icon will toggle the visibility of these items.

The ‘eye’ icon is called Hide Armor/Hide Helmet. In front of it, you can either select Always, Never, Conversation. By default, the game might have opted for Hide Armor/Helmet: Never and you may be seeing your gear during both cutscenes and combat alike. However, you can also select other options to ensure that your gear stays hidden.

If you select Hide Armor/Helmet: Always, Rook will not be wearing it either while exploring, fighting, or during cutscenes. Instead, their head will be empty and their body covered with whatever base clothing/armor they wore during character creation.

Hide Armor/Helmet: Conversation instead will let you keep your gear while exploring and fighting but will remove it during conversations or cutscenes. Note that if you ‘Hide’ your gear, you are not ‘removing’ anything. So, the perks and status will remain, but their look won’t ‘appear’ on the screen.

Transmogging is an incredibly useful feature (Source: BioWare)

When you ‘Transmog’ in a video game, you are essentially keeping all the stats of a specific piece of gear but wearing the look of another. Older RPGs didn’t have this feature. You would have to accept a gear wholly if you wish to keep its stats. But now, if you want to change the look to something that you desire more, you are free to do it.

After The Enemy of My Enemy quest, you can simply head to the Meditation Chamber, interact with the wardrobe on the left upon entering the room, and select what look you like for your gear. This way, you would have your gear equipped without changing its stats when you alter its appearance using another gear in your inventory.

This way, you will have full freedom of what Rook will look like in the game without having to worry about deteriorating stats.
