What You Need To Beat Simon in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Fighting Simon (No cheese) is a long endearing fight that will test your limits in the game. The worst part about the fight might be his unique ability to remove characters that are close to falling (30-40% HP) from the canvas, forcing you to bring out your reserve team. He has long combos that you need to listen to sound cues as the visuals are a bit confusing. He also uses the “Surround with Chroma” ability that brings your character health to 1. So, pictos that work well with this ability is a staple in the fight.
Keep Maelle and Scielle, that might be two of the most broken characters in the game for the reserve team. Especially Maelle with her Virtuoso Stance is a big damage dealer with the Roulette picto in the late game. Additionally, always make sure to de-buff Simon as much as you can, as ending the fight quickly is the best chance for a victory.
During his second phase, Simon will start using his ethereal sword along with his normal combos. It is advised to always hit parry twice after every attack ends. Plus, Simon also gets two more abilities. The “light speed attack” which you dodge to first learn when to parry; The “Sword of Lumiere Attacks” which is a long attack with quick and delayed hits plus a jump attack. During this phase, Simon will start removing party members, if they are still alive, and force you to bring out your reserve team.
General Tips for Finishing the Battle
During his last breaths, around 30% of his HP, Simon becomes enraged. Finishing the battle as soon as possible is your best bet, as Simon will have an extra attack for every move. So, you will have to keep your best damage dealing spell and be ready once he’s enraged. The two phases are counted as two separate fights, so your party will be revived once the first phase is over.
