In this guide, we’ll explore whether you should or shouldn’t buy the Excalibur in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

In many instances while playing Clair Obscur Expedition 33, you’ll come across items that don’t seem to have any use or purpose whatsoever. Most of these have a purpose or some use to the many friendly NPCs, and you just might not have encountered them yet. However, Excalibur is not one of those items. Don’t go by the name, as it’s not the spectacular sword wielded by King Arthur. Instead, it’s a wooden sword that you obviously can’t use to fight.
What’s more, you’ll get the opportunity to buy Excalibur in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 from a merchant in the Gestral Village. In this guide, we’ll explain why you shouldn’t waste your Chroma purchasing Excalibur in the game.
Where Do You Get Excalibur in Clair Obscur Expedition 33?

When you get to the Gestral Village, explore the bazaar portion of this area to meet a variety of merchants. While most of them are selling useful goods, one merchant will try to entice you to buy a ‘special weapon’ named Excalibur.
You’ll need to shell out 1000 Chroma to get your hands on this item. As a first-time player, you might think getting the weapon will give you an edge in your battles. Since it’s relatively early on in the game and there are several merchants nearby, you might not even have the 1000 Chroma necessary to buy the item. However, as soon as you buy the item, you’ll get the notification that a Wooden Stick has been added to your inventory, and you’ll find that it’s no legendary sword but a toy for children.

Why You Shouldn’t Buy Excalibur in Clair Obscur Expedition 33?

Initially, many players reported that you need the Wooden Stick to coax the Gestral child, Purumi, down from the top of a pillar. However, that isn’t the case. You can convince the child to come down without ever needing to offer the Wooden Stick.
Players also surmised that the item is necessary to bring one of the nine Lost Gestrals back to the village. This isn’t the case either, as you don’t need the Wooden Stick to complete any of the side or main quests or activities in the game. It seems that developers included this as a form of scam that the Gestral merchant runs on the expeditioners. Now that you know about it, make sure you don’t fall for it!
