In Death Stranding 2, Sam will explore a large chunk of Australia and Mexico to connect the segregated facilities and distribution centers to the Chiral Network. In doing so, he will come across a wide variety of human enemies. By default, the game doesn’t let you outright kill these people, but simply take them down. If you’ve played the first game, you probably know why that is. Any dead bodies left in the open run the risk of causing a Voidout, so the game encourages you to handle such face-offs in a non-lethal manner.

However, you can still turn on Live Fire mode in Death Stranding 2, which allows you to outright kill human enemies in the game. In this guide, we’ll explore how you can toggle Live Fire mode and its possible repercussions.

As we stated previously, Lethal or Live Fire mode remains off by default. However, once you acquire guns, you can turn it on manually. To do this, simply open the Weapon Wheel and select the weapon. While in the Weapon Wheel screen, press and hold L2, R2, and the Circle button on your controller. This will turn on Live Fire mode. The Weapon Wheel will also turn orange and indicate that this specific mode is on. With this mode active, if you fire your weapons on human enemies and take them down, they’ll die.

Later on, if you want to toggle the non-lethal mode once more, simply use the same input scheme to turn Live Fire mode off. Doing so will revert to taking down enemies without killing them.

Possible Repercussions of Live Fire Mode in Death Stranding 2

The game keeps Live Fire mode turned off by default for a reason. Every dead body in the world of Death Stranding 2 is a ticking time bomb. If you do not incinerate them quickly after the person passes away, the body could trigger a Voidout. Voidouts are huge explosions that can destroy chunks of the game’s map. All structures and NPCs caught in a Voidout will also disappear, leading to massive loss of lives in the process.

Also, every Voidout can lead to the formation of stronger BTs. You’ll notice them becoming more numerous as the game progresses.

So, if you take down a human foe with Live Fire mode, you should consider carrying the body to the nearest Incinerator quickly. However, since you might kill multiple enemies during a single face-off, it’s still an extremely risky prospect. Even Dollman will chastise Sam if he takes too many lives during Death Stranding 2.
