Why You Should Get Caretaker Sword?

You should get the Caretaker Sword because it is a solar Adaptive that is easily acquired and uniquely (as of Season of Defiance) rolls with Incandescent. Solar weapons pair excellently with solar subclass builds, and Caretaker is no exception with its ability to roll with the Incandescent perk. While nothing special otherwise, that definitely creates some fun synergy.  Here’s our list of why you should get Caretaker Sword:

  • Very easily focused and crafted
  • Rolls with Incandescent

How to Get Caretaker in Destiny?

To get Caretaker in Destiny 2, players will need to own Season of Defiance and complete the “Awaken, Queensguard” mission. This will open up the Seasonal Playlist, Defiant Battlegrounds, which drops all of the Season of Defiance weapons including Caretaker. Defiant Battlegrounds have a chance to drop Caretaker or another Defiant weapon or Armor Piece. You can use a Defiant Key to also get a Resonant version of Defiant weapons as well. The Defiant Battlegrounds playlist is found on the HELM.

You can also focus your Defiant Engrams that you earn at the War Table Found in the HELM as well if you have the Defiant Weapon Focusing War Table Upgrade. It cost 4 Defiant Engrams and 3000 Glimmer to do this.

In order to get more Deepsight Resonant Weapons quickly in order to craft, you should pick the following War Table upgrades when available: Defiant Weapon Focusing, Deepsight Decoding, and Queensguard’s Arsenal.

PvE – Caretaker God Roll

The following list presents Destiny 2 Caretaker God Roll traits for PvE

BladeJagged Edge
GuardSword Master’s Guard
Perk 1Enhanced Relentless Strikes
Perk 2Enhanced Incandescent
Origin TraitNoble Deeds
MasterworkImpact
ModBackup Mag

Blade: Swords are almost always the same when it comes to what perks to take in the first two slots. Jagged Edge gives swords more damage and more damage is always good. Honed Edge also works.

Guard: Swordmaster’s Guard is the most commonly chosen guard perk on swords due to the increase in charge rate. Sword blocking for long periods is almost always a bad idea, but blocking in short burst as often as possible can save a guardian’s life.

Column 3 Perk: Getting ammo back is always useful, and no perk does it quite as well as Relentless Strikes. Be like Joaquin Phoenix in Signs and swing away.

Column 4 Perk: Here is where this particular sword becomes unique. Being able to apply scorch to combatants is always powerful and combining with a Solar subclass makes it so much more potent. Swinging the sword becomes so much more fun when surrounded by your enemies burning and exploding.

Origin: No choice here. There is only one trait. A fun little passive benefit.

Masterwork: Swords can only get more Impact with their Masterwork, which honestly is fine. More damage is always a good thing.

Mod: Having more ammo with a sword is always a good thing, so Backup Mag is always a solid choice. Opt for a Boss Spec Mod if you need to do a lot of burst damage instead.

Conclusion: Swords are always a fun if sometimes dangerous pick for PvE. Adaptive Frames like Caretaker are normally the worst of the bunch, but Caretaker’s unique synergy with Solar 3.0 makes this an interesting pick at the very least.

PvP – Caretaker God Roll

The following list presents Destiny 2 Caretaker God Roll traits for PvP

BladeJagged Edge
GuardHeavy Guard
Perk 1Energy Transfer
Perk 2Valiant Charge
Origin TraitNoble Deeds
MasterworkImpact
ModQuick Access Sling

Blade: Swords are almost always the same when it comes to what perks to take in the first two slots. Jagged Edge gives swords more damage and more damage is always good. Honed Edge also works. Honestly, in PvP situations the sword almost always one hit KO’s the intended target so this perk isn’t as necessary to focus.

Guard: Guarding becomes less about how often it can be done and more about how much damage it resist in PvP. To that end, Heavy Guard is the best choice. Just don’t run around blocking all the time, as its still very important to time it.

Column 3 Perk: There are no stellar perk choices for PvP on the Caretaker, but the best options are those that help your block game. Since ammo is scarce and damage is next to irrelevant since swords almost always one tap, finding fun little combinations is where swords shine in PvP. Energy Transfer gets more class ability energy back on a block and that is always useful.

Column 4 Perk: Valiant Charge needs to be tested but blocking getting more lunge range means an enemy shooting someone with Caretaker could actually help the sword wielder win the dual. Block and then attack to ruin an opponent’s day.

Origin: No choice here. There is only one trait. A fun little passive benefit.

Masterwork: Swords can only get more Impact with their Masterwork, which honestly is fine. More damage is always a good thing.

Mod: For mods we want to use Quick Access Sling for draw time on the base version of the weapon.

Conclusion: Swords are rarely used in PvP anymore since the removal of peeking using 3rd person, but they can sometimes be used to great effect when opponents are caught off guard. Using a sword in PvP, really comes down to personal preference.
