Auto Rifles are the ultimate jack-of-all trades primary weapon, and adaptive frames are the most average of the bunch. That doesn’t mean that they aren’t good though. They are the work horse of Destiny 2 and can be used in almost any situation. Strand Weapons can also roll with the element specific perk Hatchling.

Old Sterling can be obtained by a random legendary engram drops or from rank up packages at Banshee-44 in the tower. You can rank up Banshee-44 easily by dismantling weapons and armor you don’t need, and by completing his daily bounties. You can also check Banshee-44’s rotating weapon inventory for possible rolls.

PvE Old Sterling God Roll

Barrel: Arrowhead Brake is just a great perk to have on weapons with a low Recoil Direction stat.

Magazine: Appended Mag is great on primary weapons that have a lot of rounds in the magazine already, as it basically grants them an additional kill or two before needing to reload the weapon.

Column 3 Trait: Speaking of needing to reload the weapon, Rewind Rounds is just a fantastic perk to be able to roll on this weapon. If you are accurate, you can put well over 60 rounds down range before ever needing to reload.

Column 4 Trait: Frenzy is an extremely effective perk in PvE on primary weapons, having basically infinite uptime. There are other perks in the this column that work well with specific builds in mind, such as Demolitionist and Hatchling, but Frenzy is the catch all perk for most situations.

Origin Trait: Field-Tested is a really nice passive buff in PvE, especially if you aren’t dying as the perk is always active until you do.

Masterwork: As with most PvE rolls, the top choices are range and stability on most weapons.

Mods: Being able to mow through minor enemies quicker, just makes this weapon more effective overall, so go with Minor Spec for most situations.

Conclusion: Actually a decent Strand Primary to use in most situations. If you need a strand weapon, but your exotic slot is taken up by another weapon so you can’t use Quicksilver Storm, then this would be a great option to sub in.

PvP Old Sterling God Roll

Barrel: Arrowhead Brake is just a great perk to have on weapons with a low Recoil Direction stat.

Magazine: Getting more Range to help with damage falloff and accuracy cone falloff is always a great play in PvP and Accurized Rounds does this the best.

Column 3 Trait: Discord is a fun perk to use when pairing this weapon with a special weapon. Get the kill on the special weapon and swap to this one for increased stats.

Column 4 Trait: Pairing with Discord, Harmony activates the exact same way, but giving us a damage buff instead of a stat buff. Truly a match made in heavy. We see what you did with those perk names Bungie.

Origin Trait: Field Tested is slighrly less useful in PvP than PvE as you are more likely to die, but its free so it doesn’t matter too much.

Masterwork: Range as always is the go to for PvP.

Mods: Helping the aim assist stat is another important PvP option, so Targeting Adjuster is a great pick.

Conclusion: The roll on this weapon is really interesting, basically making this gun a nice hot swap option. Pairing Discord and Harmony basically gives this gun free stats just for using another weapon first. While not necessarily a META option, it does have some potential to be effective.
