Abilities
The best abilities for the Strand Hunter PVP Build are Grapple Grenade, Threaded Spike, and Silkstrike. The Silkstrike super is great for PVP because it can be used to roam a map securing multiple kills in one super. The Grapple Grenade is one of the best movement tools in the game to traverse long distances fast. Lastly, our Threaded Spike is great for finishing low-health enemies and severing enemies reducing their damage done.
Silkstrike – Roaming super that allows you to swing a blade on a Strand rope and attack with either single-target or area-of-effect
Gambler’s Dodge – Activating this dodge while in close proximity to enemies will give you your melee ability back. It also makes ourselves harder to hit while dodging
Strafe Jump – A higher single jump with strong directional control makes this jump a must have for PvP
Grapple – This grenade will allow us to grab onto a Strand point and swing forward on Strand energy
Threaded Spike – This melee will bounce around targets, severing them, the return to you
The most important ability we are using is our Grapple Grenade. This grenade allows us to close large gaps on unsuspecting enemies or retreat from danger. Also, our Threaded Spike is great for starting engagements by debuffing our targets or by finishing off low-health enemies. However, even in PVP, strong abilities can be swapped due to situational needs.
Aspects
The best aspects to use with our Strand Hunter PVP Build are Ensnaring Slam and Widow’s Silk. Ensnaring Slame allows us to use our class ability in the air to dive into the ground and suspend any nearby enemies. Also, Widow’s Silk gives us two grenade charges to ensure we always have one to engage or escape with.
Ensnaring Slam – Activating our air move while in the air lets us dive to the ground, suspending any nearby enemies
Widow’s Silk – Gives us an additional threadling grenade charge. Also creates a grapple point where we can continually grapple to without using a grenade charge
Both of our Aspects are essential with this build since one provides us with additional grenade charges to surprise our enemies with and the other helps deal with enemies rushing our location. Also, they can both be used offensively and defensively.
Fragments
The best fragments for our Strand Hunter PVP Build are the Thread of Generation, Thread of Warding, Thread of Continuity, and Thread of Mind. Since these provide us with damage resistance, regenerate our abilities, and increase our Strand debuffs.
Thread of Generation : Grants grenade energy while we deal damage allowing us a little more skill spam
Thread of Warding : Gives damage reduction after picking up an orb of power
Thread of Continuity : This allows our suspension to last longer on our enemies
Thread of Mind : Defeating suspended targets gives us a little class ability energy
Thread of Warding is one of the most important fragments for our build since it provides us with a massive boost in our damage resistance changing the time to kill for most weapons. Secondly, the Thread of Continuity allows us to extend our suspension and sever effects on enemies. Moreover, Thread of Generation and Thread of Mind provide us with grenade energy and class ability energy.
Best Weapons
The best weapon combination to use with the Strand Hunter PVP Build is an Igneous Hammerand Conditional Finality. Since these provide the best utility for both good close-range and mid-range engagements. Also, Hand Cannon and Shotgun is one of the highest skill gap weapon combinations and is often preferred by veteran players or those participating in high levels of PVP content.
Weapon Combinations
Below are some additional weapon combinations for our Strand Hunter PVP Build:
- Hand Cannon & Fusion Rifle- Best for good aimers
- Submachine Gun & Sniper Rifle- Best for aggressive players
- Pulse Rifle and Shotgun- Best for passive players
If you wish to run a different weapon combination, we highly recommend at least running a primary ammo weapon and a special ammo weapon. Running two special weapons will limit your ammo and is not functional. Even though utilizing two primary weapons is doable, you will be at a massive disadvantage due to the strength of special ammo weapons.
Hand Cannon & Fusion Rifle
While not as iconic as the hand cannon and shotgun meta that ruled Destiny 2 for many years, the hand cannon and fusion rifle combo is a lethal pairing. You gain the benefit of both mid-range engagements with your hand cannon and close-range bursts with your fusion rifle. This combination is especially powerful for guardians who like the high skill gap of Hand Cannons while providing an easier-to-use special weapon with the Fusion Rifle.
Submachine Gun & Sniper Rifle
With both close-range and long-range engagements taken care of with this pairing, however, it is recommended to play very aggressively with this combination. With a submachine gun, you are lethal at close ranges allowing you to contest most weapons within short range. A sniper rifle allows you to clear a lane and push up toward your enemies.
Pulse Rifle & Shotgun
This pairing allows for both long-range and close-range to be secured. Pulse Rifles can out-range most hand cannons while providing a very easy-to-use weapon so they work well with more passive players. Shotguns provide one-shot potential when getting rushed by enemy players that push your position.
Exotic Armor
The best exotic armors to use for Strand Hunter PVP Build are Knucklehead Radar and ST0MP-EE5. Within PVP, the best exotics are often neutral exotics that work without requirements like subclass or build synergy.
Often, movement and passive exotics are preferred over exotics that require a specific gameplay loop to be effective as these can be hard to maintain in a PVP environment. So Exotics like Knuckhead Radar and ST0MP-EES are great because they provide massive passive benefits like movement and constant radar without needing outside assistance from abilities or builds. For example, Knucklehead Radar provides radar and minimap even while aiming down sights, visually marks targets, provides extra damage to low-health marked targets, and provides a small boost in airborne effectiveness of all weapons. Also, ST0MP-EE5 increases your sprint speed and slide distance, improves your jumps, and gives a slight boost in damage reduction while airborne.
Armor Stats
The best stats to focus on in our Strand Hunter PVP Build are Mobility, Intellect, and Recovery. Since these provide us with survivability, reduce our class ability cooldown, and reduce our super cooldown.
- Mobility: 100
- Resilience: 80
- Recovery: 20
- Disciple: 70
- Intellect: 30
- Strength: 30
Armor Mods
The best armor mods for our Strand Hunter PVP Build are Targeting Mods, Dexterity Mods, and Unflinching Mods. Since these build into how well our weapons perform in combat, they are of the highest priority.
Slot | Mod | Mod | Mod |
Head | Arc Targeting | – | Kinetic Targeting |
Arms | Fastball | Kinetic Dexterity | Arc Dexterity |
Chest | Unflinching Kinetic Aim | Unflinching Arc Aim | – |
Legs | Recuperation | Absolution | – |
Class | Reaper | Bomber | Distribution |
While we have kinetic weapon mods and arc weapon mods, you should adjust these depending on your weapon choices. So make sure to swap these mods to match your weapon energy types.
Gameplay Tips
This Strand Hunter PVP Build is about using our abilities to suspend or debuff our enemies to ensure we have the advantage in any engagement. Our entire kit is designed around moving around the battlefield taking engagements that are favorable or retreating from ones that are not. We can traverse large distances insanely fast by using our Grapple Grenade and then slamming the ground to suspend any unsuspecting targets. This build doesn’t have any built-in healing so it’s incredibly important to focus on health regeneration when low.
Our weapons aren’t the only powerful weapons we have in the kit. Our melee can finish low-health guardians as well as sever them to reduce the damage they do. Also, our super is fantastic as a roaming super and great single target and area damage. The whole kit is fantastic at being a nuisance to your enemies and can often allow for an advantage in any engagement.
