ESO Werewolf Guide

Welcome to our ESO Werewolf Guide.  Lycanthropy makes a rousing return in the Elder Scrolls Online, allowing players to become infected and change into savage beasts in combat.  In this guide we’ll examine what benefits and disadvantages we gain from the transformation, where and how to become infected, how it works to use, and all of the skills we gain access to.  If you’ve yearned to join a pack and hunt your prey, this guide is for you.

Strengths and Weaknesses

eso 2014-08-29 12-43-16-03

Lycanthropy operates a bit differently than the Vampirism counterpart.  Instead of being forced to feed and go through stages, we control our transformation from man to beast.  In combat we’ll build up Ultimate points and then unleash our rage, temporarily transforming into a furry beast to rip our target to shreds.  Here’s what you can expect to come along with all that hair;

+ Bonus Stamina Regeneration while slotting the Ultimate, insanely tanky and massive damage capabilities while the Ultimate is active.
+ Your character doesn’t change in appearance outside of transformations.
+ Our susceptibility to Poison and Fighter’s Guild attacks doesn’t apply outside of Werewolf form.
– We can only make use of our active abilities while transformed.
– Makes us highly susceptible to Stamina builds in Cyrodiil.
– A whopping 300 ultimate and 30 second duration makes for shorter windows of being in form.

If any of this sounds appealing to you and you’re ready to rip the throats from your enemies, the below section will explain how to get your hands on these powers.

Becoming a Werewolf

ww getting thingThere are currently three ways to obtain Lycantropy in the Elder Scrolls Online;

1)  Get bit by a rare spawn in each faction’s final zone.  They appear every 8 in game days, or on a full moon.  Engage combat and let it bite you, you’ll know when you’ve been infected.

2) Head to one of Hircine’s Shrines and have a full fledged Werewolf player transform on site and bite you.  This is by far the easiest route.

3) Pay 1500 Crowns to get an instant form of the curse, enabling use of the quest to fulfill your journey.

Here are the zones with the rare mob spawns, AND the shrines.

Aldmeri Dominion (AD)– Reapers March

Dingus

Daggerfall Covenant (DC) – Bangkorai

Ebonheart Pact (EP) – The Rift

Once bitten, you’ll see a quest marker appear over the shrine giving you the “Hircine’s Gift” quest.  You’ll need to enter Hircine’s Realm, undergo your first transformation, and hunt the wildlife on the grounds.  During this time you’ll have access to all of your base morph skills and your Werewolf timer will not decrease until you’ve completed it.  This is a perfect time to get a feel for how combat works, and examining your skills.  Once you’ve slain enough beasts, feast with your Wolf pack and turn in your quest.  After completion, your Werewolf skill line will completely reset, and you must level it to regain the skills you had in the tutorial.

How Lycanthropy Works

eso 2014-08-16 15-04-06-30

During your quest you were in Werewolf state and had access to the ultimate and your active abilities.  Now that your quest is over, you may be wondering, “how do I get those again?”  Unlike Vampire or your normal skill bar, Werewolf requires you to be in the form AND feast on the corpses of your enemies.  The great thing about this is that there are no NPC type requirements, any corpse will do!

Unlike Vampirism, there are no drawbacks or maintenance to your Lycanthropy,  your only requirement is building up a massive amount of ultimate to unleash the beast.  Once it’s unleashed, you’ll have a certain time in the form which can be increased upon kills and feeding depending on passives.  Your best bet is to farm Undead or Daedra, since you naturally get more Ultimate fighting them and you can eat multiple corpses at a time.

You can also feast off critters, as funny as it sounds.  If you don’t mind slaughtering hundreds of innocent monkeys, here’s a location with tons of potential feasts to power level your Lycanthropy!

Aldmeri Dominion (AD) – Auridon

Monkeys rest croppedMy video guide, which I’ll publish later, will show exactly how to build up 800 ultimate, go to this island, and farm monkeys.  You’ll need to find a similar place if you’re not on AD, but there are plenty of little creatures running around to do this to get to 10 fast!

Passives

Passive 1 Pursuit

Allows for extra Stamina return when you Heavy Attack.  Helps since our active skills cost a lot of Stamina!

Screenshot_20170124_100209

Let’s us stay in Werewolf indefinitely; as long as there are corpses to feast upon.  Takes 2-3 seconds to fully feast on an enemy.

Passive 3 Blood Rage

Taking Damage increases our time in form without having to stop to feed as much.

Passive 4 Bloodmoon

Let’s you bite other players to give them Lycanthropy.  Good for helping guild mates or making some money selling bites.

Passive 5 Strength

Increases our Weapon damage scaling by a massive amount in form, allowing for disgusting extra damage.

Makes grouping with Werewolves increase the uptime of your Ultimate, stacking up to 4 times.  Helpful for prolonging your high damage capabilities and tankiness.

Removing Lycanthropy

remove crop

If at any time you grow tired of scratching fleas or hack up hair, you can head to the Mage’s Guild of the major town in any of the final faction zones (same zones as where the NPC’s spawn and the shrines are located) and find a Priest of Arkay.  He’ll remove your blessing for a paltry sum of around 600 gold, completely removing the skill line from your access.  You’ll be able to regain Lycanthropy at any time again if you so choose, and your skill line progression will remain the same as it was where you left off.  There is no limit to gaining or removing Lycanthropy, so don’t feel like you have to act wisely with this tool!

Aldmeri Dominion (AD)– Reapers March – Mage’s Guild

Daggerfall Covenant (DC) – Bangkorai – Mage’s Guild

Ebonheart Pact (EP) – The Rift – Mage’s Guild
