In The Dragon Age: The Veilguard, some of the major decisions you make during your gameplay will have significant consequences in the later narration.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the fourth installation of the popular action RPG franchise Dragon Age. Similar to Inquisition, the game provides multiple dialogue options during conversation. However, some of them have a drastic impact on the narration itself. The choices you make during your gameplay affect your companions and factions and bring change to the storyline. Aspects like these make the gameplay more unique in every playthrough.
The game often puts you in a place where you need to make a decision. In this article, we shall talk about the major decisions in The Veilguard and their consequences in the storyline. You can also choose to end all the companion questlines and make decisions that alter your romantic stories with your companions.

Major Decisions and Their Consequences In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Save The Mayor Or Leave Him
This dilemma takes place in the earlier part of the gameplay. In the ‘Shadows Crossing’ quest, you encounter an entire town suffering from Blight due to Mayor Julius’s greed. It results in the situation where the Mayor gets strapped in a Blight and you will be given the choice of either saving him from the Blight or leaving him to his fate.
- If you leave him be, he will return during the later part of the game in the ‘A Growing Corruption’ quest, where he becomes a Blighted boss. This choice was approved by Harding and Bellara and disapproved by Neve.
- Saving him from the Blight would result in you not getting the quest ‘‘A Growing Corruption’. This choice was approved by Neve and disapproved by Harding and Bellara.
You will also prompted with a special choice option of banishing him to the Grey Wardens, which is available only to the Grey Wardens Faction.
Save Minrathous Or Treviso
During the double dragons’ attack on Minrathous and Treviso, both Neve and Lucanis need your help to save their city, but you can help only one. This is one of the toughest decisions you need to make in The Veilguard.
- If you choose to Save Minrathous, Treviso will be destroyed by the Cold dragon Corius the Icetalon. This weakens the role of the Antivan Crows faction in future gameplay. As a result, Lucanis becomes Hardened and unavailable for a few quests.
- Saving Treviso, would result in Minrathous being destroyed by the Fire dragon Seartooth Vyrantus. This weakens the role of the Shadow Dragons in future gameplay and Neve becomes Hardened and unavailable for a few quests.
Choosing Davrin or Harding to Lead the Second Team
This endgame decision is one of the toughest and hard-hitting decisions in The Veilguard. It requires you to choose either Davrin or Harding to lead a secondary team during the endgame. Whichever character you choose will die in the battle. This outcome is unavoidable and is a necessary sacrifice to save the rest of the team. You can’t save both Davrin and Harding, you need to be prepared to bid farewell to one of them.
Selecting Neve or Bellara to Take Down the Magic Shield
Another major decision in the game makes you choose between Neve and Bellara to take down the magic shield. Whoever you choose will not be available for further battles. Moreover, the character of your choosing will be captured by Elgar’nan and become “Blighted. Don’t worry, unlike the previous decision, you won’t lose them forever. They can be rescued alive later.
If you choose Neve, Lucanis steps in to do her job. On the other hand, Taash fills in the role, if Bellara gets selected.
Tricking or Fighting Solas
During the final confrontation with Solas, you will receive two options – fighting or tricking Solas. The only difference between these options is the cutscene and the final narrative.
- If you choose to fight Solas with the option “But I want to fight you”, you will be taken to a cut scene without any combat, which shows Rook forcing Solas into the Veil.
- If you choose to trick him with the option ‘Let’s try this your way”, he will acknowledge your worth and will be trapped in the veil.
There is also a special ending option, which you can achieve by witnessing every memory and fighting Mythal. In that ending, Solas willingly binds himself to the Veil.
