Learn about the Life of the Party mechanic and its synergies for Way of the Drunken Master monks in Baldur’s Gate 3.

A Way of the Drunken Master monk is the highest grade of functioning alcoholic your party can hope to find in Baldur’s Gate 3. Drunken Masters, a new monk subclass introduced in Patch 8 alongside 11 others, uses the power of booze to fight harder and debuff enemies. Whether you’re carrying the cheapest rum or the finest wine, a Drunken Master monk will down the bottle in one swig, replenish half their Ki, and fight better than ever.
But what’s the fun in being drunk alone? Drunken Masters ensure that their enemies are having a good time too, inflicting the Drunk status effect with Intoxicating Strike. And every time they do, they activate Life of the Party, boosting their own combat effectiveness against inebriated foes.
What Is Life of the Party in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Life of the Party is a passive feature and condition exclusive to the Way of the Drunken Master monk subclass. Every time the monk hits an enemy with Intoxicating Strike, they gain the Life of the Party condition, which gives them +1 to AC and +1 to Attack rolls. Repeatedly hitting enemies with Intoxicating Strike can stack the condition’s bonuses. The condition ends if the monk takes damage or leaves combat. The feature is unlocked at level 7.
Best Use for Life of the Party in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Way of the Drunken Master monk makes use of the Drunk condition in most of its subclass features. At level 9, Drunken Masters gain Sobering Realization, a feature that builds on the effects of Intoxicating Strike and Life of the Party. The class ability uses an action and a Ki Point to deal additional psychic damage with an added Wisdom modifier. Using it ends all Life of the Party stacks. Therefore, the core battle plan of (Level 9+) Drunken Masters will look something like this:
- Hit enemies with multiple Intoxicating Strikes to inflict Drunk.
- Life of the Party makes Drunk enemies easier to hit while increasing your AC against their attacks.
- Drink alcohol to regain half of your Ki points while being immune to its negative effects.
- Continue to stack Life of the Party against tougher opponents.
- Use Sobering Realisation as a finishing blow.
Increasing the Wisdom stat is important for the Drunken Master for a few reasons:
- Increases the chance of inflicting the Drunk condition on enemies with Intoxicating Strike, as it will increase the Constitution save DC.
- Adds to unarmoured AC.
- Adds to unarmed strike damage when wearing Boots of Uninhibited Kushigo.
- Adds to the Psychic damage done by Sobering Realisation (unarmed Bludgeoning + 1d8 + Wisdom modifier).
