We have seen a lot of entertaining villains, but Scarlet with her Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Crimson Mare is a memorable one among them.
Scarlet with her Crimson Mare Mk. 2 was one of the highlights of Chapter 9. We get to fight her in the Planet Stir mission in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and it was a great fight for sure. In this part of the mission, we see Barret, Cloud, and Red XIII get interrupted by Scarlet and her army of monsters including Specimen H1024.
After Cloud and the party successfully fend off the monsters, Scarlet comes onto the battlefield herself with her shiny red mech suit, which is appropriately named Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Crimson Mare Mk. 2. However, at this moment, we also see Tifa, Aerith, and Yuffie arriving at the scene to help Cloud. So in the fight, the party we have available is the one led by Tifa. Scarlet’s theatrics and lines make it a boss battle to remember.
Crimson Mare Mk. 2 Stats
We can see here that even though Scarlet’s line delivery is flawless, Crimson Mare Mk. 2 is not. The mech suit, and by extension Scarlet herself, is weak to electricity. So electricity-based attacks will be the focal point of our strategy going into this battle. The battle will take a while to finish because it has three phases, and Scarlet’s Crimson Mare will get new arms and move sets in every phase. However, it is not impossible to defeat. We will just have to use electricity and keep pressuring until the mech falls apart. Let’s take a look at the full battle below.
How To Defeat Crimson Mare Mk. 2: Phase 1?
At the beginning of the fight, the only strategy we have is to use electricity and put pressure on the mech suit. Crimson Mare will have two sabers attached to its arms for phase 1. So we can target those arms and take them out. However, the arms are not so easy to destroy. They have a lot of HP, so destroying them is going to take focus and time.
Before we can attack, we need to know about the boss’s offensive moves. The Crimson Mare uses quick and multiple slashes to attack its enemies; one of these attacks is named X-Ecution. We recommend using Yuffie as the main party member for phase 1. She is fast and agile, so dodging these attacks with her would be easier.
However, it does not stop there. The boss will also spin through the arena using her Spinning Thrust move. When you have successfully rolled out of the way, use Yuffie’s lightning ninjutsu to put pressure on the arms of the mech suit. Using lightning will increase the stagger gauge significantly. Take your time and focus on one arm at a time in this phase. Destroy one arm and then move on to the next. Maintain the pressure by using lightning attacks such as Static Shock as we discussed. Once both arms are destroyed, the fight will enter phase 2.
Phase 2
In this phase, the destroyed saber arms of the mech suit get replaced with Mako cannons. So now Scarlet will try to attack from a distance, well, mostly. You will have to target one arm at a time to destroy them yet again, just like in the previous phase. While her new ranged weapons make the fight more difficult, the cannon arms come with their disadvantages. They have less HP than the saber arms. So destroying them would be easier once you land a few hits successfully.
But don’t forget that she has gained a few moves thanks to the Mako cannons. The new move, Rotating Rail Laser, hits almost everything and everywhere in the arena. You can dodge it, but it is extremely difficult to do so. If you get hit, simply heal yourself and get back into the fight. She will keep repeating these attacks throughout this phase alongside her close-range attack named Rapid-Fire Lasers. Dodge these attacks and keep pressuring the arms.
They will eventually break. When the boss’s health reaches half and one of her arms gets destroyed, you will proceed to the third and final phase of the boss fight.
Phase 3
Before you can damage her Crimson Mare completely, Scarlet will play her last card. Her mech suit will get new drill arms and a new move set. The first attack you will need to avoid is the rapid series of melee strikes named Impact Hook. The next in line is the Impact Drive. During this attack, Scarlet will lunge at you and slam her drill on the ground. If you successfully roll out of the way, you will avoid damage. She can combine the Impact Hook and the Impact Drive, so keep your eyes sharp at all times.
Crimson Mare also has an AoE attack where she will hit the ground after a delay, resulting in damage to everything within the radius of the impact. This is called the Impact Eruption.
She might get new attacks, but our strategy remains the same. Focus on the arms. Keep piling up pressure on them and fill her stagger meter. Once she is staggered, use every attack you have. Use the limit breaks, the synergy abilities, and any heavy lightning spell you have. The moment one of her arms gets destroyed, she will use the other arm as a missile. This move is named Rocket Arms. When she fires the remaining arm, it will fly around the entire arena and hit anything in its path.
But that is the end of her arsenal. Don’t stop hitting her, and eventually, her health will reach zero, and the boss fight will be over.
