Roche is a returning boss, who you might remember from the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Coupled with his signature motorcycle, this speed demon might be tough to face if you don’t know the patterns for this boss fight.

You will duel Roche in Chapter 4: Dawn of a New Era of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. He is the final boss of Chapter 4. Read on to know everything about this boss.

You might get happy at seeing Roche’s low HP pool; however, keep in mind that this is a one-on-one duel against him. You will only be able to control Cloud during this fight, so make sure you’ve practiced enough.

You should note that the best way to take down Roche is to use his weakness against Fire. However, it should be noted that he is immune to the standard set of Status Ailments to which other bosses are also immune. Roche is immune to Proportional Damage, Stone, and Morphable Item.

He has no other Resistances to any elements or ailments.

How To Defeat Roche

The only problematic part about Roche is that you can only fight him with Cloud. This gets rid of any Synergy Skills and Abilities that you might have been using to breeze past the game. Moreover, no teammates can assist you in pressuring or healing. Therefore, Cloud has to be a one-man machine here. You will need to have enough MP to cast spells and heal (or have enough items to do the same).

Roche’s weakness to Fire makes this fight pretty simple; dodge and launch sword slashes towards him to fill up your ATB bar. Once you have a charge, use it on a fire spell to pressure him and follow up with some ranged and melee attacks, based on your distance.

Keep up the fire attacks while Roche is pressured to stagger him eventually. This gives you the window where you’re going to be landing the majority of your damage. Using an ability like Firebolt Blade is extremely destructive for this duel. You can obtain Firebolt Blade via the Sleek Saber (a weapon found in the Grasslands).

Having Ifrit or Phoenix equipped as a Summon is also a good idea, as both of them deal Fire damage, which would pressure Roche further.

Moves To Avoid

Be careful to not attack Roche while he’s riding on the walls of the room. If you do so, he will launch a counterattack called Crash and Burn. Additionally, Punisher mode is a great method to counter Roche, as you can block while in Punisher mode to counter Roche’s charge and increase his stagger greatly.

Moreover, you should always just ‘lock on’ to Roche. This makes seeing his attacks much easier, rather than turning your camera whenever he zooms past your screen. Repeating the above moves and tactics will eventually lead to you beating Roche and moving on with the main story. His story is far from over, though.
