Heart of Corruption in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is intertwined with several quests simultaneously. Save your time by following this guide.
The Heart of Corruption quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard takes you on a trip across Thedas. It is a lengthy quest with several boss fights. You might be overwhelmed at first because of the lack of proper guidance for progression in the game.
A pre-requisite to access this mission is to start Gate of Deep Sorrows quest after you have wrapped up the quest, A Slow Poison. To start the former, at first, you have to visit the Crow’s Road Rooftops in Treviso Canals to defeat Desmal – Bloodhound to Elgar’nan.
Once you do, it will drop its essence for you to pick up and head to the Converged City. The quest marker for the Gate of Deep Sorrows will show you the way. Interact with the blighted roots and they will vanish. This completes Gate of Deep Sorrows. Now, your real journey starts. We recommend you complete Regrets of the Dread Wolf first because Mythal can help you during the final boss fight of this quest.
Uprooting the Heart of Corruption
Make your way down as you walk through the Gate of Deep Sorrow. You will eventually come across a door blocked by a Blight Boil. Destroy it and keep descending. There will be a few enemies along the way. Another Bligh Boil door will be in your way for you to get rid of.
As you open this second door, there will be a corridor leading to another giant gate. The Caretaker appears and gives you the Heart of Corruption quest. Enter through the door and get ready to fight Betrayal of Felassan. Pick up its essence once it has been defeated. The Fade tear in the wall ahead will also close. Now, head to the quest marker that leads you to the Beacon Island in the Crossroad. Interact with the gate blocked by Blighted roots to place the essence on it. It still needs two more Revenant Essence.
Finding the Second Essence
You must take on Pinaccle of Its Kind quest and visit the Hossberg Wetlands for this one first. Your monster-hunting skills will have you meet Amarell the Unwoven. Once you defeat it, pick up its essence and start the Gate of Pale Reflections quest. This is back in the Crossroads. The quest marker for the Gate of Pale Reflections quest will lead you to Heights of Athim where you have to use the essence from Amarell to remove the Blighted Roots and enter Pale Reflections.
Fight against Fall of the Protector here to pick up its essence and close the Fade Tear behind it. We recommend, you to immediately visit the same spot in Beacon Island as before to place the second essence on the door and head to find the third one.
The Third Essence Brings Another Labor
Now, visit the Hossberg Wetlands again to continue the Gate of Parched Hopes quest. Once you defeat The Disciple-in-Ichor, pick up its essence and bring it back to the Crossroads to open the path to Parched Hopes. After that, the said quest will end and you will get to fight for the third Revenant Essence. Kill Slaughter of the Pillars and gather its essence as the Fade Tear closes.
Head back to the Blighted Roots, place the third and final essence there, and the roots will vanish. Head down for the final fight against the Revenant Dragon, the source of these past three Fade Tears. The dragon is at Level 50. This is why we would highly recommend you to have Mythal by your side to receive some additional help.
Ending the dragon’s life will close the quest. You will find yourself standing in front of the Caretaker nearby. As he is speaking, a Blight Boil behind him will explode, leaving a pathway open. Head up to gather some loot lying around and open a chest on your right. If you keep heading right, you will find a Spirit Dock but don’t go there yet. Instead, head straight up the stairs to the upper floor. In a corner, there will be a Mysterious Circle, three of which you need to unlock the Secret Ending before the point of no return.
