Helldusk Boots - Baldur's Gate 3 - BG3

Helldusk Boots

In Baldur’s Gate 3, Helldusk Boots in Baldur’s Gate 3 are a cloth armour good for any class, located in the chest in Gortash Chambers during Act 3. You can equip it to your character’s leg slot in the inventory, providing additional bonuses and buffs. There are no requirements for this item.

With Helldusk Boots, you cannot be forcibly moved by any spells or actions from your foes. Additionally, you’ll completely ignore the negative effects of Difficult Terrain. This makes it much more challenging for your enemies to manipulate your positioning and movement on the battlefield.

Additionally, if you fail a Saving Throw, the boots allow you to use your reaction to turn that failure into a success instead. This gives you an extra layer of protection against various harmful effects and spells.

Lastly, Hellcrawler class action lets you teleport to a designated area, dealing a significant 2-16 Fire damage. The impact blast extends to a 3-meter zone around your landing point. You can utilize this powerful ability once per Short Rest.

How to Get the Helldusk Boots in Baldur’s Gate 3

You can find the Helldusk Boots in the Glided chest inside Gortash Chambers, in Wyrm’s Rock  Fortress, during Act 3. Here is how to get the Helldusk Boots in BG3:

  1. Progress to Act 3
  2. Head to the north to find Wyrm’s Rock  Fortress
  3. Visit the audience chamber, where you’ll speak with Gortash in person for the first time.
  4. You can’t get the boots without triggering a fight with all Steel Watchers and guards, so I advise you to wait till you are ready to defeat Gortash.
  5. From the audience chamber, take the stairs or ladder to the upper level (the entrances are through the southwest and northwest doors).
  6. Unlock the door to the Gortash chambers located in the middle of the top level (X: -34 Y: 220).
  7. Defeat the guardians and Loot the Helldusk Boots from the glided chest near the bed on the northwest side of the room.

Note: Getting the boots without triggering a fight with all Steel Watchers and guards is challenging, so you can wait until you reach the point in the story where you are ready to defeat Gortash. However, you can get the item without triggering a fight if you possess specific tools, such as scrolls, spells, or potions of: invisibility, flying, and haste. Having a Druid with high Dexterity or a Rogue thief subclass will also be helpful to sneak inside without being noticed. Read below the solution: How to Sneak Inside to Get the Helldusk Boots Early.

Helldusk Boots Location

Gortash Chambers, in Wyrm's Rock  Fortress, during Act 3 - Baldur's Gate 3 - BG3

Helldusk Boots is on the top level of The Wyrm’s Rock Fortress. This old stronghold north of the Rivington map is the only entrance to the Baldur’s Gate in Act 3, and you won’t miss it. Once there, visit the audience hall and take the stairs or ladder to the upper level. The entrances are through the southwest and northwest doors. The place is full of enemies, but if you already completed the Disable the Steel Watch quest and obtained Gontr Mael legendary bow, defeating them without the constructs will be significantly more straightforward.

You may need to unlock the door to the Gortash chambers on the top level above the audience hall. The boots are in a glided chest near the bed in the room’s northwest corner. (X: -34 Y: 220)

How to Sneak Inside to Get the Helldusk Boots Early

It’s possible to sneak inside and steal the Helldusk Boots as soon as you arrive at Wyrm’s Crossing Fortress, even before an audience with Gortash. However, you will need (the following list is for one character capable of sneaking in and out that has all provided skills, items, spells, and abilities):

  • A character with the ability to open a locked chest with 25 DC sleight of hand skill check
  • At least two Scrolls of Flying (10 turns), potions, or a spell.
  • The Misty Step spell or at least one scroll of Misty Step.
  • It’s not required, but having a few invisibility potions is a good idea, just in case you need a quick cover.
  • Being Proficient with the Stealth skill and taking an extra scroll of flying just in case will also be helpful.

Save the game to ensure you can always start again if something goes wrong. From now you want to be in stealth all the time. Also, as soon as you leave the audience hall, you’ll need to enter turn-based mode.

Find Gortash Room

Go to the door on the far southeast side of the audience room, just to the right from where you enter. Unchain the character that will perform this mission and activate the stealth action. The way Flaming Fist guard is facing, you should be able to pass through the door without being noticed. Now follow the battlements to the tower without the door.

Activate the turn-based mode, use a potion or scroll of flying, and fly around the tower to get to the other side. There is a wooden construction and a ladder to the top level. End the turn if you have no more movement. Fly to the first wooden platform, but don’t use the ladder yet. Take a sneak peek above to see if the patroling Steel Watch Construct is above you.

Ensure you activate the sneak action, and if the construct is nowhere to be seen, fly up or use the ladder to get to the top level. Now, it’s all about the right timing. At any cost, you must hide and avoid patroling construct. Follow the top-level battlement to the first door on your left. It’ll be locked with a 20 DC sleight of hand skill check. Unlock it and enter the Gortash chamber.

In the Gortash Chamber, Steal the Helldusk Boots

In the Gortash Chamber - Steal the Helldusk Boots - Baldur's Gate 3 - BG3

Inside, there are a few Flame fist guards and constructs. They will stay in one place, so you should have no problem avoiding them. The chest is in the next room to the northwest. Check the Gortash room map above for reference. Move as close as possible to the chest without stepping inside the guards’ vision cone(red area). Use a Misty Step spell to get to the other side of the room, just next to the bed and the glided chest.

You must pass a 25 DC dexterity skill check to open it. Once unlocked, get the Helldusk Boots and enjoy your new gear in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)! Now, you’ll need to return without being caught. The safest method is to open the map and teleport to any fast-travel waypoint. Good Luck!
