Kurwin’s Cauteriser can deal extra Fire damage and cause Burning, and you can get it during Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Kurwin’s Cauteriser
In Baldur’s Gate 3, Kurwin’s Cauteriser is a Scimitar that will deal extra Fire damage and can also potentially cause targets to endure the Burning condition. The main perk is called Cauteriser, and this will deal an additional 1-4 points of Fire damage on an attack. Additionally, on a successful hit the target will start to Burn unless it succeeds in a Constitution Saving Throw.
Unfortunately, while Kurwin’s Cauteriser is a nice weapon with some decent perks, this uncommon weapon comes too late in the game to be of much use. By Act 3 you are likely to already have much better weapons on hand. However, this scimitar might make a decent backup weapon for a companion who isn’t often in your active party.

How to Get Kurwin’s Cauteriser in Baldur’s Gate 3
To get Kurwin’s Cauteriser in Baldur’s Gate 3 you need to advance into Act 3 and make your way into the Lower City graveyard, find Kurwin’s grave, dig it up, and deal with the kobold inside. The Graveyard is to the center north of the city, not very far to the northwest of the Basilisk Gate waypoint.
Within the Graveyard you are looking for a Dirt Mound next to the center stairs on the southern side. Use your shovel to dig the mound up and Bugthimble the kobold will appear. The conversation with him can be tricky, and you can get Kurwin’s Cauteriser in a couple of different ways.
How to get Kurwin’s Cauteriser from Bugthimble:
- Option 1:
- Use the Intimidation (18 DC) option that mentions Nine-Fingers.
- If successful, another Intimidation (25 DC) option will appear.
- Succeed that high dice roll and he will attack you and then disappear, leaving Kurwin’s Cauteriser behind.
- Option 2:
- Choose either the first Intimidation or Deception option. Fail it.
- This will lead to a battle with a bunch of kobolds. Kill them and destroy the holes they climb out of.
- At the end of the fight, you can loot Kurwin’s Cauteriser from Bubthimble.
