The Phalar Aluve is a unique Bard-inspired sword you can find in the Underdark during Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3).
Phalar Aluve
In Baldur’s Gate 3 the Phalar Aluve is a unique sword, which has perks and bonuses that clearly are intended specifically for the Bard or Rogue class. It has a basic +1 bonus to weapon enchantment, as well as a +1 bonus to Performance. Performance is a Charisma skill which Bards can use when playing their chosen instrument for a crowd. This is mostly for RP purposes, but is also tied into an achievement called Busker. You unlock this by “Earning a hundred gold from playing sweet, sweet music in a single playthrough.”
Moreover, the significant perk on this weapon is the Phalar Aluve: Meldoy action. With it you can choose to make the sword Sing or Shriek for 5 turns. Additionally, you can only use this action once every Short Rest. Here are the effects of the Sing and Shriek actions:
- Phalar Aluve: Sing: All allies within 6 m / 20 ft have a 1d4 bonus to Attack Rolls and Charisma, Wisdom, and Intelligence Saving Throws.
- Phalar Aluve: Shriek: All enemies within 6 m / 20 ft have a 1d4 penalty to all Saving throws. Affected creatures receive an extra 1d4Thunder damage.

How to Get Phalar Aluve in Baldur’s Gate 3
To get the Phalar Aluve in Baldur’s Gate 3 you’ll need to find the stone it’s lodged in while exploring the Underdark in Act 1. There are various ways to reach the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3, but probably the quickest way is to use the Well found in the Blighted Village. In order to take this route at least one of your characters will need to pass a DC10 Intelligence check in order for the bottom of the well to become visible. There will be a cavern like area below where you will find lots of spider enemies. The biggest threat is the Phase Spider Matriach you can choose to fight or attempt to avoid.
You’ll then be looking for the Whispering Depth waypoint, which almost directly to the west. Nearby you should see an open chasm. Cast Feather Fall or consume a Feather Fall potion BEFORE jumping in. Doing so will let you float safely down into the Underdark. Once you land safely, you can head southwest to find the ‘sword in the stone’.
Once you locate the sword, you’ll have a few different options for removing it. The standard two ways require passing either a 15 DC Strength or Religion check. One will let you physically pull the stone out while the second removes the magic holding it in place.
If you have a Paladin in your party, they can attempt a 10 DC Religion check, which if successful will reveal the ritual needed to remove the sword. They will then have to pass a different 10 DC Charisma check in order to successfully perform the ritual.
Finally, the last option is limited to Clerics of Eilistraee, which are the only class who can remove the sword without any kind of difficulty check.
