What is the Snowburst Ring in BG3?

Baldur's Gate 3 Snowburst Ring BG3

In Baldur’s Gate 3 the Snowburst ring will enhance all of your cold damage by creating an area-of-effect circle of Ice around your target. Specifically, the Snowburst bonus on the ring will create a 4.5 meter circle of ice around your target whenever the wearer deals Cold damage. This will most likely be useful to a spellcaster using Ice Knife or the Cold type of Chromatic Orb.

However, if you have a free ring slot on a Ranger or Rogue and Ice Arrows to spare, those builds could also make good use of the Snowburst Ring.

To get the Snowburst Ring in Baldur’s Gate 3 you’ll need to progress through until Act 2, find the Last Light Inn refuge and then pass a Perception Check in order to see the Loose Plank the ring is hidden below. The Last Light Inn can be found to the northwest of the Shadowed/Ruined Battlefield. When you first approach this refuge you will have to convince the inhabitants that you mean them no harm. Once you’ve done that you will be allowed free access to the whole area.

Next, head inside the Inn building and on the ground floor head towards a small room in the north west corner. You’ll see a bed in the corner and the loose plank you’re looking for is right next to the long side of the bed. If your main character doesn’t pass the Perception check, then make sure the other party members also walk past the spot. It is highly likely that at least one of them will successfully pass the check and you’ll be able to see the loose plank.

There is no other trap or lock you need to deal with at that point. Simply click on the planks and you can collect the Snowburst Ring.

How to Use the Snowburst Ring in BG3

The Snowburst Ring is only useful if it is wielded by someone who can deal cold damage. The ring also doesn’t deal any direct damage and only creates an area of ice around the target of the cold damage. This ice acts like difficult terrain and can knock anyone moving over it prone. This is an effective control tool to keep an enemy in a single area.
