Everything you need to know about the A-fish-ionado trophy in Monster Hunter Wilds, including its requirements, and how to easily unlock it.

The A-fish-ionado trophy in Monster Hunter Wilds is easily the most frustrating one to unlock, simply due to its grindy nature. To unlock this trophy, you essentially need to capture 30 Whoppers. Although, on paper, the requirement for the trophy seems quite easy, it’s anything but that. Whoppers are basically the large fish species in Monster Hunter Wilds. And unlike the regular Aquatic Life catching Whoppers requires an extra bit of effort. There’s essentially a dedicated fishing minigame tied to catching Whoppers, which adds extra steps to the process of catching one. Furthermore, Whoppers aren’t available across all weather conditions and only appear in very specific parts of the map.
Thankfully, with the right strategy, you can easily unlock this trophy in less than an hour. Here’s everything you need to know about the A-fish-ionado trophy in Monster Hunter Wilds, and how to easily unlock it.
Requirements for the A-fish-ionado Trophy in Monster Hunter Wilds
To unlock the A-fish-ionado trophy in Monster Hunter Wilds, you need to capture 30 Whoppers. However, to catch Whoppers, you first need to obtain the Tuff Joint Bait. To get this special Bait, you need to complete Kanya‘s questline, which unlocks in Low Rank and continues till High Rank.
After completing Kanya’s quest till she asks you to capture a Grand Escunite (Razzle Dazzle), you will receive the Tuff Joint Bait. This is the best Bait to capture Large Aquatic Life and Whoppers. Furthermore, since it’s primarily built for large creatures, the Tuff Joint Bait is usually ignored by small fishes, making it quite useful for the A-fish-ionado trophy.
Here are the fishes that are considered Whoppers in Monster Hunter Wilds:
- Gastronome Tuna
- Great Trevally
- Gajau
- Goliath Squid
Tips To Easily Unlock the A-fish-ionado Trophy

There are essentially two areas where Whoppers appear in abundance. Both these areas are within the Scarlet Forest and are relatively close to a Base and a Pop-up Camp. The first area is sector 16, which is the large lakeshore that also serves as the home to the Scarlet Forest’s Apex, Uth Duna. The second area is in sector 10, close to the Wudwud Hideout. Essentially, you need to take the leftmost route after exiting the Wudwud Hideout, and from there, you will reach a shallow coastline, where Whoppers regularly appear during Plenty. Do note that Whoppers can appear during Inclemency as well. However, their numbers usually rise during Plenty and daytime.
Both these areas are fantastic spots to farm Whoppers. However, if you’re looking for a more optimized route, we recommend starting with Sector 16, and then eventually making your way to Sector 10. Reset the time of day and weather at the Pop-up Camp near sector 16 shoreline. From there, head to the shore, and catch as many Whoppers as you can see. After clearing the area of Whoppers, make your way to Sector 10.
This cycle essentially guarantees at least five Whoppers per run. After that, return to Sector 16 Pop-up Camp, and restart the process.
How Long Does It Take To Farm 30 Whoppers?
Whoppers aren’t particularly rare. However, catching them and completing the fishing minigame can take some time. If you want to speed up the process, we recommend using a slow reel and throwing the Bait close to the fish’s mouth. The Gastronome Tuna is relatively easy to catch among other Whoppers. However, they only appear during the morning of Plenty. Using our optimized route, we were able to get all 30 Whoppers within roughly 45 minutes. As such, it is possible to get the trophy within an hour of farming.
